I just got done doing this swap.. I used a 02' console in my 97' They pretty much bolt right in with the exception it seems that the console sits up higher in the rear than the stock one... Basically like the little metal base under the console might be too high for the 02'..And it does leave a little gap.. I personally didn't care cause I thought the gap was negligable considering what I got in return..

You gain two cup holders, a little wider storage bin and a power port in the storage bin so you can keep the phone in there, and a leather/vinyl boot..atleast mine did...I got a GTS..

The one thing that is a slight annoyance since I've done this though is when you have drinks in the cupholder.. it kinda makes it a little wierd to get to the shifter..Ok if you're cruising but if you're in traffic, might get a nnoying..anyhow try it, you may not care...

On that, I laid out both harnesses on my kitchen table, stripped them down and made a new one..took about 20 minutes..

I have 01+ interior in my car and I didn't have any issues at all. The center bezel tabs are a bit different but still worked great.

The odd fitment at the rear of the console is due to the '99+ cars rear suspension design change. These improvements increased the upward suspension travel (reduced bottoming out) but, this also necessitated raising the upper portion of the driveshaft tunnel slightly.

i've already got a 00+ center console actually because mine has the cup holders, i am just looking at going all blank interior and mine is a little wore down (well the top of the console that lifts where your arm sits is wore some) plus my steering wheel needs replacing and all my tan dash parts are going black :)

I almost wouldn't mind staying tan/black interior if i found the tan 03 cobra seats at a good price.. i am just going to do fronts because i'm doing rear delete and an 8 point cage..

Did you ever notice that people w/ lowered '94 - '98's tend to have problems with the driveshaft rubbing the e-brake bracket & cable parts and the later ones, for the most part, do not?

I have noticed one or two....Don't take me the wrong way..I'm a "Believe it when I see it" kinda guy...Trust me I'm learning new differences between New Edges and SN's everyday..I have both style of car here and a lift..I'm gonna scope it out in the coming weeks..Might help me figure out my plan on the Console...

Still don't understand SXYNERD....Maybe he will chime in?

The only reason I mentioned the '99+ rear suspension improvements was that I remember reading a magazine artical about the new '99 "New Edge" cars back in mid '98 when I worked for Teksid Alum. Fndry. in Dickson, TN. Since then, I've heard other talk about it on other forums and from other people. Most don't know the change ever took place or really even care.

It doesn't feel any higher and it went in without a hitch. :dontknow: I even reused the two mounting screws under the bucket. I'll go back out and take a look at it today and see if there's any distance between the carpet and the console.

Oh, It will fit w/o any real problem. Some notice this, some don't. I don't like the way the '98's cupholders are either. Can't blame anyone for trying to improve it. My front cupholder holds a cell phone and that's about it.

Here I am, a guy that has had a few really "raw" musclecars, talking about creature comforts like ..... CUPHOLDERS!

OMG!

I feel your issues, lol. This is the first car I've ever owned with air conditioning and something more than the Autozone tunnel hump Velcro 2 cup/cassette tape/and sticky penny holder. I'm sure you know the one I'm talking about. It always comes in ugly tan or a powdered blue, lol.

The LCA's are not even any longer I don't think. Too many aftermarket LCA mfgr's stating that their parts will fit from '79 - '04. I know the '99+'s LCA's went to metric attachment bolts. The pinion snubber had to have been relocated upwards with the tunnel too for this change.

I have often wondered, if the 2 frame sections directly above the rear axle were raised up slightly as well.

Well, you have the 2 chassis at your disposal.......
