Manual's are deffinitely more fun to drive. but this isnt about that  so im curious. i know autos weigh more and soak up more power. but when it comes down too it which is faster in a straight line. a stalled, shift kit auto, or a basic t5. i know theres alot more too it then that, reactions, driver, yada yada. but just a rough guess. same car, same power what should win? ive heard of guys putting auto's in their 03 cobras and shaving a few tenths.

From what I understand, which is much, built autos generally do better than sticks in high-hp cars however, there is nothing fun about Auto unless you have a manu-matic setup like BMW's steptronic trannys. Some people prefer auto's but meh, for a driven car and not a straight up drag car, stick all the way.

stick car is faster, if the driver can operate it flawlessly. if you bracket and care about consistency auto wins.

it really depends on power level, ET's, and tire choice.

i think a stick car for mid-high 12s or slower, auto after that (only applies to someone who can really work the stick).

for 12's? i'd say a stick for 10's maybe high 9's after that get an auto.

if you want to be consistent you have to have alot of track time and a predictable car with a manual, so i say auto just because it makes sense.

autos shift faster, but man i just love the feeling of bangin a few gears now and then. i dont think i would want to give that up unless i could start pulling tires off the ground.

that is the difference, most people would rather win than worry about shifting manually.

low 12s N/A you should be pulling tire LOL.....

I've always heard if an auto is set up right it'll beat out a manual but I've also heard of a guy switching from a manual to an auto and losing time at the track so I'm not sure as I have no personal experience in the matter. Like mentioned I think how quick the car is has a lot to do with it, as the faster the car goes the larger percentage of time you spend shifting the gears.

That could be just a simple issue of differance in gearing. a 4r70w in 1st gear is something like the equivalent of a t5 w/ 4.30 gears.

its more than likely the huge weight disadvantage going to an auto and the increase in drivetrain loss. i'll take the couple tenths gain in ET over inconsistency anyday.

manuals will always put more power to the wheel, but thats not the main objective in most drag racing classes.

It's a function of car and driver. What's the weight? Horspower? Power adder? Class?

The faster the car is, the more advantage an auto is going to have. A turbo car especially can build boost at the line and leave a lot harder than a stick. The 10.5 radial/275 radial classes have really grown as more time has been invested in auto/turbo combinations. In a slower car with a good driver, you can rip the gears fast and make quicker ET passes with the stick.

To answer your exact question...

stock T5 versus AODE with shift kit and stall
(assuming AODE since you're a 94/95 and let's say a 300whp motor looking at your picture)

the T5 is going to roast the AODE all day long. The AODE especially is a heavy, power robbing POS that frequently explodes, violently. Running NMRA factory stock class you get a 100lb weight break it sucks so bad (used to be 200lbs).
