Well..i have a 96 gt with some mods..pi intake, long tubes, tune. The stuff in my signature..

I was just wondering where people are shifting?..

my car us auto also so maybe I should shift higher than you guys would since my cars are wider and tend to drop down more in the rpms..

I can pretty much adjust the shift from first to second from 5k to 6k. Last time I went to the track i only tried 5500 to 6k shifts. But I realized that I should of tryed lower like 5k to 5300.

you have a DYNO tune? If thats the case they should have adjusted your shift points to shift at the MAX power on each gear. Thats how my 98 was done

well..I had a street tune..so no dyno numbers..he adjusted it to shift at lik 5500...since my max numbers are probably around 5k I would assume. Your supposed to shift like 10% higher than max hp right?

Do the Jmod, leave it in Drive, and let it do it's thing. Especially since you can't control 2nd to 3rd anyway. At least I hgope you sren't doing what you could be doing...

well..when I was talking about controlling the shifts, I was talking about adjusting them with the tuner..not by manually shifting anyway. Im not doing the j mod my self..but maybe I can get someone to for me. I can control when 2nd to third shifts with my xcal2.

What does that last part mean?

the auto from 96 and up should be fine to shift manually any way

You can hold 2nd gear if you shift from one to drive, then immediately back down to one, then you'll be in second until you shift again, but don't do it, it applies the over-run clutches and destroys your trans.

For a NPI car, I think you are on the right track, I would say 5200 off the top of my head. That should put you just before peak power after a shift.

dude..im not driving a 5.0.. haha my old car I actually had to do that to hold second...my car actually has 1,2, d so I can hold first and second..even third by disabling the o/d..but my car is not stock npi...i need to get her dynoed

I didn't know your shifter had those selections.

Anyhow, with your mods, it still isn't able to take advantage of them. If you stuck PI cams in there then you would be able to use that PI intake, plenum, and etc.

why is that?...becuase the npi cams are not set up to make power up top?.... I thought the same thing...that I need cams that help my engine breathe better up top to go along with the other mods...but Ive had a coiuple of people tell me its a waste.....you know anyone who will put pi cams in?...

Yeah they don't have much duration or lift. Since you can get PI cams for under 100 bucks, it's a pretty smoking deal to pick up some cams that will let your motor pull nearly another 1k.

Any shop that would put in any other cams should be able to do it for you, but you'll pay around 500 for the install at a shop.
