budget wheel suggestion...?

so im looking for new a pair of rims, so i can throw some sticky tires on for weekend fun.. i truly love the way real drag rims look but i cant afford $200+ each... i want to throw a pair of 315/60/15 MT et streets

i think im set on these, but i want to make sure they will suit my needs.. make sure they will fit properly, and most of all make sure they are durable enough...

im almost sure our bolt pattern is 5 x 5.4...correct? what about the offset or backspacing? will they fit??

any input is very useful. i havent been online much and i dont have time to do my research.. ive been working 6am-2pm, then 3-11pm. as soon as i get home i hit the sack, leaving no time for computer use.

also does anyone have any suggestions on where i could find a pair of mickey thompsons( or other suggested DR's) for a decent price? jegs isnt so bad at about 210$ each, but im sure there out there for cheaper.

Consider buying used...see what deals pop up. Market prices tend to be waaay lower than retail prices. Just what I would do in your spot, good luck!

1) dont buy that big of a drag radial, you dont need it.
2) buy a slick, 26x8x 16 will work fine and you wont ever see an issue.
3) If you had a gt you could toss some 15" v6 wheels on there and be done for 300 bux max (wheel and tire)

i dont want slicks. i want DRs so i can legally drive around with them

even if i did have a gt, i wouldnt throw a crappy pair of v6 rims on it and call it a day. that looks super shab. this is why i wanted to get those wheels, bc they at least look like drag rims

let me rephrase this post to one question will those rims fit my bolt pattern and would the backspacing and offset be correct?

1) a 315/60/15 is a MASSIVE tire. Its a 30" diameter tire!!!!!!!
2) your trap rpm in (assuming) 4th gear will be outrageous (depending on your rear gear ratio)
3) What size tire is on the car now and what is the diameter of that?
4) There are cars out there run 275 tires running 7's consistently. You can get alot and i mean ALOT done with a 275/50 or 275/60 tire. These will be alot closer,still give a good foot print, AND give you a good chance at have an good 60 foot.


People talk crap about nittos. Yes they are a weak tire, however they wern't made truly for competition. With this said I do know and have seen slips from people cutting 1.54 60' which is better then almost everyone on here. Hell I only cut a 1.62 60' with 8.5 slicks last year.


You don't NEED that big of a tire, you WANT that big of a tire. Also you will break stuff alot quicker with a drag radial then a slick. WHY ??? not because of traction but because of drivetrain shock. The soft "wrinkle wall" of a soft sidewall slick will give and absorb some of the shock as oppose to the relatively short sidewall of a drag radial.


Also you may want to check that a 15" wheel will clear your rear brakes.

Keep in mind that even with a 275/60/15 you will still have your ABS light come one anytime you drive due to the difference in diameter, this is why I am changing my DR's to a 275/50/15

You'll be fine with 275's. 315's are pointless

I've seen so many cars in the 10.5 Outlaw class run mid to low 7's on a 275 tire it's ridiculous.
