Here it is, sorry if my explanation and questions are jumbled.

My project started as a V6. I had access to a 96 V8 5.0 explorer from which I took motor and all accessories, AODE, ECU, and wiring. I've done a lot of ECU pinout studying and it has very closely ECU to engine bay wiring harness as the V6 and the 4.6, with possibly a few mods and unneeded stuff.
Here is the bigest part of my delima, the explorer ECU dozen't operate the electric fan, for which I have duel electric fans, however the 4.6 and the V6 computer does. Should I use the 4.6 computer, at an additional cost, or can the V6 computer be adapted or flashed? Or should I use the explorer ECU be and buy a stand alone electric fan operator, like painless? Do y'all use the ECU to control your fans or not?

I'm planning on a new custom engine wiring harness and I want to use the EDIS instead of a distributor, because of possible future endeavors, Eaton maybe.

Thanks for any thought or suggestions,
Mika

pass on trying to use the EDIS from the explorer. Its crappy even on the stock explorers(i have one i know).
Buy an ECU for your year mustang or make it easy and get a A9L and a fox harness. if you want distributorless go w/ an aftermarket standalone system that will let you convert to coil packs. There are several reasons the explorer one is a mess but the 1st that comes to mind is that it uses cam position and crank position to determine what to do for firing. It has very little (none) aftermarket tuning availability, etc.

Just get a good fan controler, they aren't that expense $40-150(2 fan, soft start, etc)

Have you seen the guy on corral that makes adapters to run a stock style 5.0 lower w/ an eaton? Are you dead set on running that AODE w/ any more than stock power?

Thanks for the reply i appreciate the opinion and experience, I'm trying to use what I have the well runeth dry. I will keep an aftermarket system in mind for the future or if I fail at the swap.

Is the A9L the fox computer? I've read a lot about using it on a 5.0 sn95, whats the appeal of that computer?

I'll more than likely be going with a fan controler.

I have seen the 5.0 adapters and continue to watch the progress on an intercooler.

The AODE is already built with upgrades and converter so for now that is the one, I did see a stand alone controller for it in a 5.0 mag last month.
