I've always wondered if you could or not. I have a set of these sitting in my room from and I think they would look sick polished. I'm just not sure if they are the right metal or not. These are the ones that came on the 96 GT's, not the later models that came on the 98 GT's. Opinions on polishing them or different paint scheme or colors to make them look better? :dontknow:

Polished they look awesome. Ill be doing mine but Im just polishing the spokes and outer lip and leaving the cutouts painted. You will need to order the aluminum center caps instead of the plastic thats on them now.

I like this idea. Maybe even paint the lip and inbetween the spokes black and polish just the spokes

I was doing something very similar with my SRT wheels. I was planning on polishing the faces and painting the inserts black but once I got everything stripped off, I found that the metal had some imperfections in them that I was afraid would show after I polished them. There was a SHIT ton of sanding after removing most of the paint and they needed a lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot more to ever be finished. I ended up sanding them all up about the same and having a shop custom-paint the whole shebang. I'm not sure if the 96 GT wheels can be polished but I'll bet that they can. But be prepared, its a LOT of work.

Yea polishing the whole wheel would be a huge PITA...but I've always liked the look of the wheels with the inserts painted darker

They can be polished, however I don't why you'd bother. The 98 Cobra wheels look far better on your car.

Oh yea the cobra's definitely look better...I just kinda wanted to do something different to my old wheels so I could change up the look every now and then

most rims can be polished.... All aluminum rims can. I thought about polishing a set of 03 cobra rims but it would be ALOT of work.

So I'm guessing all you would need to go is get a paint stripper to strip the paint, then progressively move from a low grit to high grit sand paper, then polish?

Pretty much. Aircraft stripper worked great on my wheels. Let them soak for awhile. The longer they soak, the more it'll pull off.
