CEL question for 96 gt

my CEL light has been on for about a month now, i brought it to advance auto and i hooked up the obd2 reader and it came up o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1.. which o2 sensor is it?

i was told it was the driver side after the cat which i just replaced yesterday but my light is stil on.. do i have to pull the negative off the battery to reset it or will it reset itself eventually?? if i even changed the right one

I would reset the computer whenever you install replacement parts or remove the light with a code reader. I'm guessing it could be the primary o2 sensor, and not the one after the cat. The first 2 sensors control how the car runs, secondary sensors just make sure that cat is operating correctly and making sure the primary sensors are doing its job.

ima reset with the battery when i get around to it, i wont be driving it for a few days so i have time, and the car doesnt run any different than what it used to before cel came on, and which of the primary o2 would it be? the left or right side?

bank 1 is driver side. bank 2 is passenger. up stream o2s follow 1 & 2.

So you changed the wrong sensor. You need to change the passenger side, front sensor. Pull off the negative battery cable, pull headlight switch to "ON", jack up car, swap the above O2sensor, lower the car, turn off headlight, connect battery, done.

Yea I figure that now haha.. just gotta find time to do it now, in the process of moving and with work I don't have time at the moment but maybe this weekend ill get around to it. Thanks everyone

bank 1 is driver side. bank 2 is passenger. up stream o2s follow 1 & 2.

cylinder 1-4 is passenger 5-8 is driver. Bank 1 is always w/cylinder 1.

When you degree our cams you go off of 1 and 6.

No. Bank 1 is the passenger side. Bank 2 is the driver's side.

update.. i replaced the correct o2 sensor today and its fixed.. thanks to everyone who wrote on this post and helped out..
