ok ... so this may be considered a noob emissions question, but what is the charcoal canister for? Do I still need it, I have removed the smog pump and plugged the port in the passenger cylinder head. I'm just not sure wether it's only being used as a vacuum port now and I could remove it and get the vacuum from another location? I live in a county that does not do emissions inspections, so I'm not "required" to pass :icon_rr:

The canister is there to draw gas vapors from the gas tank and burn them vs. having the vapors released into the atmosphere. The vacuum line draws the vapors through the canister and into the intake. If you remove the canister you may get the smell of gasoline inside the vehicle.

so other than that, it serves no purpose?

Just don't clamp off the hose from the tank as it needs to be vented. If you do you are probably going to collapse the tank as fuel is drawn off unless you install a vented gas cap.
