my car has always dropped volts when im sitting there.. almost to the point where the car dies.. and as soon as i rev it up it jumps right back up to where its supposed to be.. i replaced alternator..(cheap one) and battery and it still does it but not as bad or as often.. its a big problem when the electric fan cuts on.. huge decrease in volts and it just constantly drops even goin 60 65 mph... but i can push in clutch and rev it real fast and it jumps up again to the right spot.. any known causes out there? :dunno:

Have the alt. tested and see what its output is. Also maybe you have a loose belt... Hows the belt tension?

UDP's make the alt spin slower sooo that would only be a prob at idle not at hwy speeds does the volts drop wheh the car is cold or after it comes up to temp If it only happens when the fan comes on that could be the culprit

i like to run the stock alt pulley since its smaller it spins the alt faster and helped out my charging problem

The fact that you have a stock sized pulley when the rest are UDP is not an issue. It is spinning faster than if the UDP was switched to it.

I agree on the possible defective unit theory. New doesn't mean good.

Good luck.

im not exactly sure how tight the belt is supposed to be.. but i do see like a black dust built up on the front of the alt... not good i suspect... and yes the volts only drop when the car is up to temp and the fan kicks on... i had a problem with the fan not cutting on and my car was fine volt wise.. but then it got warm outside and i jiggled the fan wire harness around and it cut on and thats when the probs started again.. i cant run AC because that too drops volts like a siv... so whats the prob? bad alt.. bad fan.. loose connection.. please help.. im trying to save money to get wheels and tires and im tired of chasing this prob.. this is the 3rd alt.. all the others died as well... :crying:

That sounds like a short somewhere in the fan or harness.

pull the connector off the fan harness do the ends look chared or smell like burnt insulation spin the fan by hand (engine off and cold of course) is it smooth or notchy notchy is bad bearings when the fan kicks on the rpm should droop briefly and pop right back up my fan kicks on when the needle is in the r/m range

check your charging system wires... ie. ground cable, pos cable... etc...

no_pistons7 had charging problems on his 95 gt and that was the culprit...
