Ok..Here's the thing..When you buy your tools..What make you ..Just got to have that tools..OTHER THEN...Name brand,Need or Design...Can it be the Color?...The part that I stress to the fellas at work...Is why don't you take care of what attracted you to the tools in the first place... Like Clean them?
Keep your tool box clean...Some guys like the oils and dirt on they tools..I don't ..So the fellas clown me ..because I keep my tools/Box clean in a dirty at times environment....
Do you keep your tools clean? or Dirty? and Why?

I typically don't bring mine inside and clean them thoroughly, but I do wipe them down when they get dirty enough to justify it.

Usually do all my tools about 2 times a month and on e a month get a rag and some canola oil and put it on them , it will lubricate them and remove surface rust and prevent it from the future .

I make a pile of all my tool when doing a job, as soon as I am done I wipe down all of them with degreaser and a shop rag. Occasionally I will go through all my pliers and stuff oiling moving parts as needed.

Was taught to always take care of your tools at a young age and do it to this day. All my tools are spotless and will easily last a lifetime.

I don't wash them in the sink but I do wipe the grease and dirt off when the job is done.

I think the cleanliness of the tools/shop is a direct reflection of the quality of work.

I have about 5-6k in snap on, mac, and cornwell tools for work, im an auto tech. I wipe my wrenches down 9 times out of 10 before I put them back in my box. I wipe down all my air tools daily, along with oiling and greasing them. There is a few things that I just cant manage to keep clean though lol Screwdriver handles for one... brake cleaner works great but it will make them fade instantly. As far as my box.. the shop is too dirty to even try to keep it looking as nice as yours at work! lol I got cheap Husky box anyways.

Edit: forgot to mention.. A big reason I keep my tools clean is because it save me a lot of time throughout the day. Hands have to be clean to get in a customer car and dirty tools = dirty hands = me washing my hands 20+ times a day and dry, cracked knuckles

Snap-on..matco..and craftsman is what I've got..I'll wipe em down if I'm working with oil..diff fluid..etc..other than that I don't tho......also when I do I'll just go over it with a paper towel..I don't get crazy with it..just enough so it's not all greasy next time I use it

I've got a good amount of tools that are my own and a bunch that are my dads. I've got my own snap on and cornwell as well as proto, sk and craftsman. I follow a similar route to Joe, just make a pile of the tools and wipe them down after I'm done. I used to leave tools sitting around when I was a kid and my dad always used to yell at me about it but I was a kid I didn't really care lol. Then I started buying my own tools.. Well that changed my perspective entirely when I realized how much my dad's snap on ratchets and sockets were, because I had bought my own, and I know I sure as hell wouldn't want anyone leaving my tools sitting out. We have probably somewhere around 20k in tools between the two of us here at home. Not to mention the 4 tool boxes he has at work that are like our big craftsman lol

So yes, clean tools are essential, as well as socket trays...

Are you implying I am a bit OCD?!?!? Actually I am not that bad, when we did my gears the guy was wiping down his air hoses with wet wipes as he was rolling them back up. That's my definition of OCD.

*just as a reference to my precious post* I have had this 88tooth since last fall and have only cleaned it off with a paper towel dry just to get the oil from my hands off of it..to me there is no reason for my tools to be cleaner than this..and I say that as a person that is borderline OCD about pretty much every aspect of my life

Ya I would have to agree with you 90% of my tools are about that clean and it is completely pointless to try to keep them any cleaner.. especially if you use them everyday.

every tool i use goes on my cart and not into my box until clean. its much easier to keep stuff clean when you easily have over 5k sittin there and dont have nearly what you need yet.
