cleaning egr

i'm gonna clean it tonight at work, so i bought a can of carb cleaner. guy at parts store says that'll damage the diaphram inside. says to use manifold cleaner(?) any truth to this or a sales pitch for more cleaner? :bs:

I believe he is right, you run the risk of ruining the rubber diaphram. Might want to try something a little less caustic.

I cleaned mine right off the car...no more dirty crap in my intake.

Brake clean is a little less harsh than carb clean because it is designed to not dry out rubber seals on brake setups. I'd try that. It won't clean as well as carb clean but it will still get the job done.
