Cleaning the intake manifold?

Anyone have any tips, tricks or secret formulas that will help clean all the black crap from the inside of the runners and on the underside of the lower intake manifold? I sprayed almost 1 can of brake cleaner on the underside....... Trust me..... It did not help at all. I got most of it off of the "shield" on the underside of the intake, but had to use a wire wheel in a drill to get it to come off, You cant get a wheel into the rest of the underside area of the lower intake.

A bead blaster would sort it out.

I have a smaller blast cabinet unfortunately, It fits inside but leaves little to no room for being able to do much of anything. The other thing that scares me about blasting it, I would be spooked big time not knowing if all of the media came out and sure would not want that crap going into the engine. Especially on the upper intake with that great big "box"....

i would check your local parts store and see what they have. there are some crazy powerful
solvents out there. we have a machine at work that uses stuff called "ozzy juize" and i have never seen
any engine part leave that machine dirty.

As for the Varsol, When I went to Menards and Lowes it was the paint department people that said they had not heard of it. At least at Menards they took the time to do some looking for it, Lowes seems to be a joke around here and they just kind of stand around with their thumbs in their A**.

Went up to Advance and have tried several different brands of "carb cleaner" so far the only one that kind of works is the store brand.

clean it in a well ventillated area if u decide to use oven cleaner or any other cleaner that puts out a "stink".....

I second the bead blasting. It gets everything absolutely clean and as long as you blow it out well enough you shouldn't need to worry about media getting stuck in it.
