Clear Coar Overspray Removal - Help!

Just had my rear bumper repainted and the shop totaly screwed up the entire car's paint job with clear coat overspray. My once shiny black car is now tinted white in places and feels like sand paper. I've tried everything from rubing compound, to both a light and aggressive clay bar kit. With $40 worth of product invested in cleaning up their mess, neither made the slightest bit of difference, and the shop is arguing with me saying "it was like that when it came in here." (My skinny, white ass it was like that...)

Any suggestions? Would a detail shop with a high speed buffer be able to get it off?

you or the detail shop will have to wet sand the whole car with 2000 grit or higher paper. then rubbing compound, then hi speed buff and polish

Take my advice.

Go back to the shop that painted the car and have them wetsand the entire vehicle. If they screw it up, they will have to repaint the car.

Wetsanding is the only solution.

I have to agree, go back to the shop and threaten them with a lawyer. And if they call your bluff I bet any sleaze bag lawyer would take that because its not hard to prove.

Start by going to a few other body shops and get estimates for the repair/sanding and ask each if they think this is the result of recent poor work.
Then present copies to the shop who did your work and go from there.

Really don't want to get a lawyer involved. Not only do I not have the money or patience for that, but the shop that painted screwed it up is scum and not worth another second of my time. I've argued with them for days and nothing positive has come of it.

As far as "wet sanding" goes, it sounds pretty harsh on the paint - does this route require repainting the whole car after the sanding?

2000-3000 grit paper is barely rougher than notebook paper to the touch.
it's not very hard on the clear coat at all.
Most of your better paint shops will wet sand the car after final paint to get rid of the orange peel you get from the spray gun. (your just flattening out the ripples or in your case the overspray)
Keep in mind, the factory clearcoat is pretty thin and can't take much abuse. A light scuff is all you really need to remove the O/S.
