Ive been semi interested in this myself, thinking of the much easier to diagnose OBD2 system you could get with an Explorer 5.0 setup. But keep in mind the explorers use a camshaft synchronizer and sensor assembly in place of a distributor as well as a crank sensor if Im not mistaken. SO it would be a little more involved then most people think. There are also other inputs to the PCM on later Explorers that our car isnt really wired to provide. Im sure there are ways around it and Im pretty sure people have likely already done it. Google searching time!

Call Lidio Iacobelli if you're really that interested. He's done it successfully.
