Hi,
I drive a 1995 V6 3.8l Mustang. A few days ago it started overheating, I had a look at it, seemed to be the water pump. Finally got the new Parts and took it to the mechanic.
What we saw there was that it was leaking from behind the water pump.
It seems like it might be some sort of gasket, but what gasket comes behind the wp?
I´m kinda new to working on cars, but I´ll try to explain the location a bit better:
If you look at the point where the wp is put on and follow that toward the engine. So basically where, whatever part this is, meets the engine block, that´s where it started getting wet.

Does anyone know what that is and what part I might need?

Have a great day!

Tiago

Well
Pictures would be a lot better explained
Makes sure clear and some close up and a little space to make out what we are looking at

Yes fair point.
Tried to capture it as good as possible, but it's tricky to get it clear.
It's wet around that area where you can see that out of focus srew in the third pic (camera wouldn't focus better)

Hope they help a bit. If not I'll try to do some better ones, it's just starting to get dark here (I'm in germany).

cross over on the intake water jackets at the very front
a lower intake gasket should take care of it

remove the top end intake and lower intake manifold get a gasket set for top end and lower intake manifold gasket
also your timing chain cover and water pump are oil soaked somewhat
you will need a gasket kit for both

Alright thanks for the answer!
Do you recon that's a job that can be done by myself and are there any special tools needed?

you can do the job
time and patience is the key
while you in the timing chain cover replace it with a new timing chain and gear set
just line the sprockets dot to dot facing each other for top dead center

That's good to hear and thanks for the tip! Gonna start searching for the right parts now first since they're quite hard to get here in Germany. Gonna give an update once everything is done!
Thank you for the help :D

Yes will definitely do that! First thing I learned the 'hard' way after working on a car for the first time. Thank you
