did it with the new pedal. Quit twice.
installed the new fuel rail pressure sensor, so far, nothing...but unfortunately, that means nothing. Probably going to change out the fuel pump as that has been pointed out as the possible culprit as well.

should would be nice if it was going to quit on me, it did it more frequently. data logging something that sometimes shows up months later is not a great way to try and diagnose it.

How about a 12volt line monitor? Get one and tap it onto 12v components that might have a wire break issue. The monitor should record how many times power was interrupted.

and for grins, upon a suggestion from a well trained mechanic, went ahead and replaced the fuel pump assembly and it died on me the next day. this is really getting old now. I am wondering about the ignition switch.

Did you ever get your instrument cluster rebuilt? I think that’s a common cause for strange issues in these cars since it acts as a pass through. My 09 will sometimes go into limp mode where the pedal doesn’t do anything and it’s in forced idle until I cycle the ignition. Also, not at the same time strangely enough, sometimes the entire cluster goes dead. If you check the codes with Forscan, it’s usually the instrument cluster that the codes originate from, instead of the ecu. I like that Forscan break them down into which module is detecting a fault since more than one module uses readings from sensors, so you know where the issue originates from. Point being it might not be a sensor but somewhere in the can bus system.

@07GtS197 makes a good point. Reminds me of my sons 240 volvos. At start up, the battery light will illuminate untill the alternator starts charging, then the batt light will go off. If that light bulb is bad, the alternator will not charge. That light bulbs function is strictly to excite the alternator. And the connections and the wiring leading to the dash cluster degrade over time causing head beating problems.

I have not had the cluster rebuilt....yet. I did have a code for that on the Forescan. in addition, it has acted up.....start the car and all the gauges go to zero and then maybe 10 seconds later come back or when I start to drive.

With AI though, with the combination of codes I got along with a battery high voltage code, hopefully we narrowed it down to millisecond high voltages spikes that the PCM reacts to causing a disruption in the information received which it reads as coming from the heated PCV and the Throttle control module and makes it go to forced engine shutdown to prevent a runaway. I have two used alternators I got several years ago for a P71 so I through one of those today and cleared all the codes. We shall see. I had unplugged the PCV in hopes it was that but it shut down after that too, so apparently the PCV is not the issue and with a new throttle body, pedal and a bunch of other stuff, I have partially rebuilt the car chasing this ghost. This AI program has been unbelievable with the information I have provided including screenshots from the Forscan.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and staying with me on this. has been super frustrating for well over a year now, especially driving everywhere on high alert and trying to always position myself for an escape route. staying to the right, near turn lanes on either side or large non vegitation medians.
