so my throwout bearing is making a ton of noise, so i'm about to replace it. I just bought a new one from autozone. I'm going to try doing this without removing the tranny; i'm going to just remove the 4 tranny bolts and shifter, pull it back a bit and support it. hopefully this will work out

anyone with any tips or expirience with this? I should have just put in a new one when i installed the tranny :wall:

It'd be kinda tricky since you have to reinstall it in the clutch fork. I don't know if it would be possible - maybe? I think in the end it wouldn't end up being much less work than just pulling the transmission.

well my dad wont be home at all tomorrow so I'm going to try to do it with just me, might be kinda hard to bring the tranny down and put it back in without an extra hand. I was going to do it today, just ran out of time

I've yanked my T-5 a shit-ton of times by myself....Here is MY tips...

Pulll the shifter all together. DRAIN THE TRANNY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Get the car up high enough for you to lay on your back. Pull all the tranny bolts....it ain't going anywhere just yet. Lay on your back....head under the bell housing, grab the tranny, and shake the f*ck out of it. It will slide right on out....again...make sure its drained or else you'll look like you got a lap dance from snail-trailin' stripper on the rag at the titty bar by the airport...only colder and without the booze or flashy lights. Putting it in is the same man...Once that input shaft pops out of the clutch disc...you might as well just yank it. I find it perfectly easy to pull by myself...its the install that sucks ass. A t-5 is cake though....be glad you don't have a mod motor with tremec 3650 or a T-56.

to make things easier, i keep an extra front drive shaft yoke around so you don't have to drain the oil. Just pull the drive shaft off and slip the spare yoke in its place. If your quick, little to no oil will be spilled. Bottom line, No more oil bath!!!

did you not replace the TO bearing with the engine swap? are you sure that its just a matter of adjustment as in it is constantly touching the pressure plate? anyways either way the T-5 is pretty light and you should be able to man it in there by yourself. ive done it a couple times. biggest part is getting the car up enough to get it out. i put the tranny on my chest and bench press it up there in place. i can have it out and back in the car in just over 4 hours by myself. i highly recommend draining the oil and i take the shifter out so i can refill the tranny.

thats the thing i didnt want to do, drain the fluid, i just put in new fluid. i do have a little plastic tool that you shove into the shaft to keep the fluid in, but it pops off pretty easy.

my x-pipe is a big problem, but i'm going to try and get it done.

i wouldnt grease much, that crap will sling all over the clutch disc, then guess what.... new clutch time. just a tiny coat on the input shaft is all that is needed

take the trans out, then pull the clutch fork out. after you removed the cable that is. just look and remember which way the TOB was facing before you yank it out of the bellhousing

ok, i got it out, but there are a lot of differences between my new one and old one, so i just want to make sure i have the right one.

the new one has some plastic, the old one doesnt. the new one also has 2 clip type things , the old one doesnt. they are basically the same size, but look totally different

sorry for the blurry pics

That will work fine. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE BEARING!!!! Like said above...it will sling onto the clutch and cause it to fail. Put a light ...and I mean LIGHT coat on the bearing retainer (the part the bearing slides on) but NOT on the part of the bearing that will be spinning. Once you get the tranny in, look up in through the hole for the clutch fork and make SURE the throw out bearing is seated correctly in the fork. You can knock the bearing out of or crooked on the fork when trying to slide the input shaft though the bearing.

make sure the bearing lines up in the center of the bellhousing. once you get the tranny in the hole, make sure the tranny is in neutral, and turn the housing while pushing in to line up the splines then line up the bolts to the bellhousing.

Re: **** throwout bearing

I did mine with the transmission still up in the trans tunnel. The only real bitch is getting the input shaft to slide back into the clutch when you reinstall the transmission.Oh and make sure to clean up your input shaft.
