My 94GT has what looked to be a set of crap autozone replacement wires and a stockish cap and rotor and god knows how old Autolites in it but the car ran like a champ. I took it out the other night for a few laps around the block with the new exhaust just to see how it fels because im going to be driving it to work soon.

About the 6th lap around the block it started missing. So i bring it home and find a wire that was pushing up off the cap and then when i was removing the plugs one endded up being in 2 pieces. So i said hell this heap needs a tune up.

I installed new PLUGs New MSD Cap+Rotor and some 8mm Accel wires Fire it up hopeing for the best and still has the miss. Im going to check each wire for spark next day i get a chance to play with the car. But is there something im over looking that could be the cause of this...

Every tune up should include a cleaning of the MAF, air and gas filters, although I don't think these are causing your problem. For a miss I would suspect an electrical issue. Plug wire not firmly seated on a plug or the cap or perhaps a cracked plug during the install. Did you set the plug gap to .054" on every plug? This evening after dark run the engine to see if you can visibly see any arcing from the plugs and wires.

Gapped at .055, Air Filters a K&N, Fuel Filters been replaced and Maf is been cleaned.

All plug wired "Snapped" into place and MSD cap as the top that holds the wires down and all the plugs are fine. And ive never had a set of 8mm accells arc not a new set atleast. Im going to try it either way but its crazy that it feels identical to what it was before the tune up. Might hook a test light up and tap into the boots comming off the distributor and see what happends...

I have picked up the habit of always using dielectric grease on the spark plug tips and distributor tips when changing plugs and wires. Its a piece of mind thing.

Coil, Ignition Control Module, and distributor are all things you should check. The PIP inside the distributor could be faulty. Also, check the timing. Look at the balancer as well. It could be starting to spin; throwing your timing out of wack at high rpm under heavy load.

A spun HB has no affect on the timing as seen by the PCM unless you have physically reset the timing after it has slipped. It will cause vibration that can be destructive though.

Well i feel pretty dumb, i felt that i messed one up while making the wires so i went right for the wire on the car took it apart re spliced and crimped and re intalled and bam the miss is gone. But the car still runs like a dog.

Stock 302 Auto with 2.73's and 315's out back and it will stall up damn good but will not break the tires loose. And if you punch it the front end come up and it goes but still won't break the tires loose. Feels like it has less pep then the NPI 4.6 i used to have...

The car needs gears. In a bad way. A set of 4.10's would be nice with your AOD. At least 3.73's. You'll be able to destroy the tires then.

I couldn't imagine my car with 2.73s, I had mine with the stock 3.27s and I though it was dead punching it from a stop even with overdrive off lol. I have 3.73s now, I love em. (Should have came stock with em lol). You still get decent gas millage going around 55mph on the highway(I think I do somewhere around 2200rpm.) If your only gonna do local driving really then I'd say go with 4.10s.

I drive the highway right now about 30 mins one way to work at 65-70mph so im probably going to go with 4.10s. I had them in the last car and the one before that and they were both 5 speed cars so im guessing ill be fine with the auto. Hell my back tires are only 25.5" talll used to run 28" tires on the last one.

Still feels crappy tho and i looked at thewires coming out of the distributor and the rubber seal is rotted falling out and the wires are hard as a rock. Im starting to think i should just fork out the money and buy a new distributor and coil pack. Another $200 and i can have a summit billet distributor and a nice msd coil. Atleast then ill know everything in the ign system is new. Hell the cars a 94 with nothing but original parts on it so i have state "restoring it" so to speak.

A lot of guys with out cars have had problems with the MSD distributors for some reason. The majority prefer the motorcraft distributor.
