Figured I'd start a new thread on the detail.
We got a used boat. it's sweet but needs some love.
Had some time 2night, so I Broke out all the stuff and tried it out.

Some of this is hard water. but most of it is neglect, oxidation and dumb kids of the last owner that just beat it.

(Cleaned up the wheels last week with MetalRX - had them off to check/repack the bearings.

this thing really is light for it's size
and the rpm limit adjustment and variable speed trigger work quite nice.

Did a test section tonight -- Rotary style using Optimum's new Spray On Hyperpolish

you can see it needs some serious polish...

Let me know how that spray on hyper polish works.... Optimum has never really impressed me but maybe i need to try it again on other projects.

Re: Detail of a Malibu Wakesetter, and breakin in the Hitachi Rotary

so far pretty good. What do you think from these pics?

I was told that Gell Coat is a little different than paint because it's super hard, and thick. it is typically very sun oxidized as well.
I need to wet sand the rough areas, but I hit that last night to try out the buffer.
It was getting dark when I took those pics, so here's some from this morning.

Maybe Justin can chyme in and give me some pointers. :headbang:

This is after 2 passes with a wool pad, and the Hyperpolish.

I think since its gel coat you should try something stronger..... Tried the CG Paint Correction formula yet with the boat?

haven't tried it yet on this thing.
I have Pro Polish 3N, but I'm going to check out that M105 like you recommended.

Awsome Hands, thanks for those links.

Jeff

You actually got the less aggressive spray polish from Optimum. You got the Hyper Polish, the Hyper Compound is what was made to compete with M105, it has a lot more cut than the Hyper Polish, it has the same cut of M105 has without the dusting. I've been using the M105 for quite a while now, ever since the Hyper Compound has came out, that is all I've been using on heavy swirls, boat details, and RV details.

Yes a boat does take a lot more time, you have to go over the same areas more often than you would have to with clearcoat. If you are looking for more cut, the Hyper Compound Spray is the way to go, like I said it cuts like M105, but is a breeze to work with, no residue, no dust, no mess....

BTW, I always use the Hyper Polish Spray that you are using to finish off after using the Hyper Compound Spray. This is a great combo, once more people try it out, I think it will get as popular as the M105/M205 combo.

Dang! well that makes more sense.
Will the optimum compound or CG no.721 be comparable?
I will be starting the polish tomorrow so wont have time to get the Hyper by then.

The older Optimum Compound that you have isnt going to have much more cut than the Hyper Polish Spray you have. I'm not sure about the CG polish you are talking about, I've never tried it.

thanks for getting back Justin. It did OK.
after about 2 hrs, I think I got this wet sanding down.

On this I wet sanded it 2x, spot sanded where needed.
2 passes wool pad with the Optimum Compound
1 pass orange pad w/ Hyperpolish
then 1 pass w/ PB glaze for fun.

Not bad for a Noobie? :p
