They're totally unnecessary for most people, and they're all pretty much the same crap with a different name in them.

The drain plug is nice, but seriously, how often do people really drain the axle?

Ill save the money on a girdle for something else. I like taking the cover off to change the fluid so i can look at the spider gears and make sure there isnt any problems arising in the diff.

When I had the rear gears installed, I thought it a good idea to put on a little support and went with the TrickFlow unit. No leaks or issues. Has drain plug on bottom, but not on top, where they recommend filling up in the regular spot on the front of the diff. As far as fluid goes, whatever they used when the gears went in is still there, but IMO you can't go wrong with synthetic Royal Purple or if you go with stock then make sure you add the friction modifier to protect the LSD.

It's been on a few years and still looks good. Recent pic when I installed my LCAs.

I have the Ford Racing SVO cover. Never had a problem with it. Got the hook up from a buddy at the dealership

I've had the T/A cover for about 15 years.

They were one of the originals for the 8.8 if not the 1st, that the rest copied.

The only new design that I have seen since the T/A came out is the uber expensive Fiore Billet piece.

Tis true, I ran a TA cover on my fax body when I changed gears in it along, long time ago

Any oil recommendations? (looks or fancy bottle not important)

Just the regular stuff, I dont have my books out to see if its 75/140 75/90 or what. Just look in your manual

What do aftermarket covers actually do for the car? I've always wondered how they make a difference.

Just provide support and preload to the bearings and provide stability are reduced shock in some instances

Covers themself do nothing but additional fluid capacity and in most cases a drain plug

Girdles however prevents side load bearing deflection

True that !

Handz does after every auto cross event....

What is side load bearing deflection? And am I in danger of that ever?

Normal driving, no unless your handz..which we hope to go your not, cant handle 2 of you here...

Jeesh you are old :)

Mine is orange. Didn't know until 2 months after I bought the car and it went on a lift. I think orange paint makes it magical. Paint your shit orange!

Ok so a girdle looks like a diff cover. I get what you guys are saying about what it does. But they look the same. Unless I just have the wrong idea of a diff cover. Is there some actual visual difference?

Obviously the stock cover doesn't have a drain valve, but I mean does it add like some extra thickness? I just don't get it. I'm probably never going to get one until I redo my rear end anyway. It's just easier for me to ask now so then I know for later.

A cover is just that a cover(stock). Look at javi's cover. See the bolts where it says saleen thats a girdle.

The girdles put pressure on the main caps of the rear end so that hopefully there is less stress on them...

Correct, the two sideways bolts are threaded through the cover and when in place "brace" the rear end
