Before putting my 94 GT in storage last year (Octoberish) the distributer went out on me by almost completely locking up. I had it replaced at my local shop and it ran fine for a couple weeks before a new problem occurred. While driving for about 15 min one day the car just upped and died. It turned over but wouldn't start. Let it sit for about four hours and it started right up like nothing happened. Drove it home and parked. Drove it one more time to a store and shut it off to go inside. Came out and it wouldn't start again, came back two hours later and it started right up and I drove it straight to storage. Well I got it out today and unfortunately the problem didn't heal over the winter months. It will drive fine and then just shut off. By shut off I mean its like a light switch. No chugging or a slow die, just bam and it off. It seems like it only needs to sit for 10 min or so before it'll start up again but its still an issue that needs fixed because it does it at anytime (driving, idling, or just not starting). My question is if anything else would mess up as a consequence from the disturb going out? I only know that this problem never occurred till shortly after the distrib was replaced. I don't really have any major mods that I think would have an affect on this but my mods are: complete exhaust, intake, throttle body, underdrive pulleys, cam, and gears. Its a 94 GT automatic.

Inspect the round electrical connector on the distributor. Maybe it is not fully seated. Is a new distributor or one from a salvage yard?

If I was working on it, I'd probley start with determining if the car is producing any spark during the 'no-start-event'. When you are cranking it but it does not start, is there any movement on the tach? I think the tach uses the pusles that the TFI is sending to the ignition coil.

I'm sure you already did this but pop off the cap and inspect the points on the inside of the cap and take a very close look at the rotor. Like Smith said, inspect the round elecrical connector for the distributor. Also check the wire between the alternator and the outside of the fuse box. If that burned through and was somehow grounding itself it could kill the motor very easily. good luck
