Ditch the fender liners?

What do you think? Are the front inner fender liners needed? Any moisture problems by not using them? Are the aftermarket ones any good?
Mine are not in the best of shape after running wide tires and having the car too low so they rub over bumps and around turns. And I do not live in the nice dry states.

there is wiring above them I have seen get damaged by the tires rubbing it instead of the liner.

I always like to keep them in. Helps keep the engine bay clean. Plus I have a wire tuck and my fuse box and everything is in the inner fenderwell. Dont really want that stuff exposed.

I would try to keep the liners in, they do protect a fair bit. My 04 came with a CAI and its right up against the bumper and the liner, without the liner I think it could be an issue in the wet. Like ttocs said, it protects the wiring. The fender themselves may also be an issue, if you look at the top of a fender from an old truck there can be paint cracked or tiny dents from rocks hitting the inside.

Can you just trim where they are rubbing?

A buddy of mine just replaced a motor in his GT because of water getting into his CAI... He hydro locked the motor. I think I'd leave them unless it's a show car. Even if just for the sake of keeping things clean.
