So i did not mark my dizzy before pulling it out now i have lined up tdcon the compression strock with 0° then i lined up the rotor with the 1 plug then dropped the dizzy in with the 1 slightly to the driverside of the car as on diagram but it still will not run right. sould i be 10° advanced then line up the rotor with the1 wire oradvance the timing 10° afterand drop it in at zero. Other thing is that when i pulled it out i remember the notch on the dizzy was lined up with the start of the notch on the block and now it is turned clockwise about a 1/8 from before and i have to advance it another 1/8 or more just to get the car to run i am so lost and i dont have a timming light plus i only has the headers onthe h pipe is not hooked up i cant bolt it up by myself lying on the ground it is a ***** to get my arms up there . I was going to babe it to a shop get it on the lift to install the h pipe but could this be part of my ptoblem with the car not running right.

It's because you want to be on compression stroke and ur prolly on exhaust. What you do is pull the distributor up and turn the rotor 180*

Take out the nuber 1 plug, if you have a helper have them hold their finger over the spark plug hole. Turn the motor by hand until they feel pressure excaping, make sure the piston is ontop dead. Then drop inthe dizzy, start wit the location of the rotor as number 1. Put your plugs on CLOCKWISE, the order is 1,8,4,5,6,2,7,3....I know is backwards from the way most people time them, but how I learned 15yrs ago.

can I buy a period. wow. longest run on sentence ever.
Keep in mind, the dizzy gear is helical cut (angled). When you put the dizzy in the rotor will turn as it meshes with the cam gear. This turn needs to be accounted for when installing it.
Start from scratch.
-Set #1 piston to TDC on compression stroke.
-Stab dizzy making sure rotor is pointing to #1 spark plug wire.
-pull spout connector then start car.
-get a timing light!!! Set timing to 10*-12*BTDC.
- drive and enjoy

Lol it is some long sentences. I think that might be my problem. After i got tdc with my wife helping me so i know it was pushing air out. The rotor was siting on the 8 plug wire not the 1 unless i advance the time huge to get it back to 1 .

What cc was talking about happened, the dizzy is a tooth off due to the gear. You can take it back out and move it, or just rotate your wires one position.

i have pulled and put in my dizzy many times but i never went with rotor pointing at #1 wire i always mark top of dizzy with #1 from cap and point the rotor there when i put in usual in middle pointing to back of engine. is this wrong? car runs fine but just making sure.
