Do HIDs work better in projector headlights?

In another thread, we were talking about the light output of HIDs. Someone said that they don't work well unless they're installed in projector HL. I have some crappy, "generation 2" HL and 8000k HIDs. I was thinking of changing them for some Cobra units but of projectors are "the way to go" I'd like to hear some feedback first.

i wouldnt say they are "better". i have ran hids for a couple of years. in my eclipse where i had projectors they were not as good of light as in my mustang. they reguler light puts off more of a light compared to a projector putting it only in your view point.

The ultra clears are cheaper than the cobra headlights and look like they'd put out more light. I bet once I buy new foglights and put HIDs there too. Anyone have pics of a GT with hids in the head & fog lights???

there are a bunch if you search for them. i am kinda tipsy so ignor my last post of not making any sense. with projectors they only put the light in your view point, with the regular lenses it spreads the light out more which i like.

like he said, projectors only "project" light where you need it, and they come with a "cut-off" line that doesn't shine light on other
drivers. A regular Halogen housing doesn't have either of those, so the light is emitted all over the place, and can, in some cases, be
blinding to oncoming traffic. So not only are projectors more functional, they are also "courtious" in a way.

The cobra headlights can be gotten for less than 60 shipped :)

I have 6000K in my Cobra headlights.

They do an awesome job....10X better than the stockers. I haven't had anyone blind me with hi-beams because mine are blinding.

I want the projector lenses for my HID's because I like the focused light better, even though I am not blinding people with my smoked cobra lenses.

Only problem i see is the projectors you can buy for our cars are cheap and the lens is low quality at best. If you want a projector light find a quality set from the junk yard and do a retro fit, thats what i'd like to do.

I've heard of people taking the projector lense out of Acura's and other cars and retrofitting it into the housing of their regular lights...I think this would be the cleanest method.

There you go then :)

Start searching for a Audi or Acura etc lights and start tinkering.
Try it out on a junker set of mustang housings and get good at it.

It has been done and a write up is out there, i think i saw it on Corral.

I'm tempted to do it.... i have a set of those cheap projectors in my garage and one is cracked so it would make a nice template.

yes the projectors for stangs suck because they are not actually made for HIDs they were made for the halogens so in other words to aim them well is a major PITA.

Also some people have fabbed some up from acura projectors like mentioned that way you get a true projector in what ever housing or headlights you want.
