im not sure exactly, but i believe its something that stops the springs from touching something (metal to metal). Its bascially a piece of rubber that prevents sqeeching noises.

i think..

ISO=Spring Isolator

The Spring Isolator (ISO) is a round rubber peice that goes in between the Spring and the Body/Control Arm. It is it prevent any Metal-to-Metal contact between the body/control arm and the spring.

you can remove the ISOs to lower the car a 1/4 inch for a better looking stance

very annoying metal to metal squeeking...i think for the tiny amount in lowers it totally not worth it...get some sportlines it will slam the car and you can keep the iso's to prevent the metal to metal

i think i got the itch from Handz but i want my car lower.. i have Sportlines on my car and its not quite low enough.. i basically want to drag my hpipe on the ground.. haha not quite that far but lowwwwww.

and Handz explained it perfectly. thanks for your stance threads Handz, i think you persuade everyone on the forums (except the 4x4 club) that low, is "bomb". :p :) O0

Most people have no problems with no iso's but i know scarface had squeaks on his old 97 fobra ;). For as much as my car squeaks now I figure it can't be much worse than it already is so I'm leaving mine out when my supersports go in next week.

There is No Issues When Removing the Isos

I used to be worried about that because i dont wanna go to the track and beat up my car and havea metal noise pissing me off. There are 2 Isos, Top and Bottom. The Top is thick rubber, removing this will lower the car more than removing the bottom. The Bottom Iso is so thin it really just helps seat the spring.

I removed the Top Iso and replaced the bottom Iso with Bicycle innertube.

....i have had no issues what so ever

if it's metal to metal contact won't it rub the paint off and cause rust where they contact eachother?

Funny, my bottom isolator was thick as hell, way more so than the top. I just used foam tape around the inside of the control and top of the spring perch

what did you use to stop squeeks on the top Handz?

and Wyo.. maybe the isolators were in backwards? i dont really remember what the isos looked like as far as thickness and stuff because its been about a year since ive messed with them.

the spring doesnt spin, it just touches the body so it doesnt cause friction which will rub off paint.

i was originally going to wrap both the top and bottom of the spring with Bike Innertube because i though for sure there would noise. When i went to wrap the top of the spring i couldnt get the innertube around the spring, so i only wrapped the bottom where in sat in the control arm.

when i went to drive it there was NO noise what so ever

The only people who say there will be noise are the people who havent taken the ISOs out. All the people who have will say there is no noise.

no such thing as a dumb question man.. thats why we ask.... cause we dont know.... im new into the whole mustang world myself, and i dont really know much about them at all... mechanically that is.... i read these threads to learn... like i learned yesterday, not in a thread here, but from brian, (snakebit) that if you want to run a really wide tire and it hits that spring under your car, i dont remember what one it was, but you can take it off and flip it over, it works the same but the fat part is now at the top, and the skinny at the bottom. therefore you can run your wide ass tire...
