When i figure it out, You'll be the first to know.
Hey all,

I am in a E-Test nightmare here, and I could use some input.. I have a 1994 GT The motor is a 306 with GT40 Heads, Lower intake off a 96 Explorer and a cobra upper.. I am running 19 lbs injectors stock MAF and throttle body. I am pretty sure the car is running a E spec cam but i have no way of verify that..

I have replaced the TPS, and cleaned both the MAF and IAC.

The car runs a little rich, and according to shop i have it in, the VAC drops to 14 PSI when at idle..

The readings we got were

HC ppm LImit 200 Reading 357
CO% Limit 1.00 Reading 1.3

Other then a idle surge when she is cold started, the car runs great, has plenty of power..

The shop which is a drive clean repair centre believes it's my cam that is giving us the issues..

I am not to sure.. I believe that.. I really need some help here guys, This is my last temp sticker for the year.. I need this car for school.. IT HAS TO PASS and soon!.

Thanks

Don

If it's an e cam you will have issues without a chip and a tune.

Could possibly check egr and check to make sure you have no vacuum leaks

Yeah i have been thought the whole system.. the only thing i haven't changed out is the MAF, it's from the org motor, and has been kicked around a garage and sat on the self for years.. a new BBK 76mm local is $365 bux i am debating if i wanna try swapping it out and try again, Best case it works and i pass etest, worst case i have a better MAF and i can do a Cond pass..

You really just need a dyno tune.
Until then, Set your base timing at 10* and pull the spout connector for the test.
Mine will just barely pass with the spout in. But with it out, it passes like it's not even running.
With the spout out the timing advance is locked out. The car will run like normal but will fall on it's face at about 3000rpm's.
Don't remove the spout connector in the parking lot at the test facility. I stop around the corner, pull the spout then pull into the facility like normal. After the test, drive around the corner and put the spout back in.

What is a conditional pass.
In Ga. it's either pass or fail. Until you spend a crap ton of money trying to fix it. Then it's just a waver till next year.

It's a joke really.. if what it would cost to pass is over 450 dollars, You can pay $135 (plus 2 etests, so it's really $190) and get a cont pass.. they are unlimited.. like i said it's a joke (Money grab).

In Ga the e-test cost is $25 max. If you fail then you get 1 free retest at the same location. Then you have to pay for another test again.
Ga also tests every year for 25 years.

Here in Ontario, it's 33 bux, if you fail you get 2 more chances at 19 bux each.. I just op'd for the cond, instead of wasting my time LOL..

I'm so glad all the states I've lived in don't do that crap.

Last state I plan on living in is Florida and I don't think they do either

In Ga not everyone has to do it either. Just the counties around Atlanta. I'm 5 minutes from a county that doesn't have to.
It also the same price for the OBD2 cars as it is for the OBD1's .

bad cats dont make the car run rich. But if you do truely have an aftermarket cam in the car, most of your issue could be fixed with a simple tune.

You'd be amazed at the difference a little bit of injector timing will make.
