Emergency... need answer asap

Ok guys, i need a quick answer... where the hell can i get a stearing gear for a 96-98 cobra?????? OMG my freaken thing is going out and the wheels are going all the way and shit... it about put my ass into a devider going 70 tonight... I've called advanced auto and auto zone and they said they didn't carry it and it would be tommorow before they even knew if they could get it... I'm -30 in the hole right now so i can't spend a lot so ford is out and i mean out of the question... i've read someone on here got one before from an autoparts place... any ideas???? please help asap. thanks

you mean the steering rack for a cobra? (thought you had a gt......)

if you mean the steering rack, try contacting local mechanic shops to see where they get theirs from. i had to replace mine and i got it for $120 + core, but it was a re-manufactured one. worked good and it gave me a better turning radius too. the place i got mine from was a little local shop where all they did was steering racks.

The cobra and the gt's are the same thing... but i'm getting the cobra in case its better

hahaha, gotcha. i have no idea which one i got, but i know before i got it i never rubbed with the 17x9's, and after i replaced it, the wheels rubbed when i turned it to full lock.

i know 96-98 are different, 99-04, 00R, and 03/04 cobra are all different. i told myself id figure out which one i got eventually, but ive been too lazy to investigate. the 03/04 cobra and the 00R are supposed to be the best ones, but expensive as well.

(ps. after i put hte 03/04 cobra front control arms on my car, the rubbing problem went away)

mine dont! get some 03/04 control arms on there (if you are still running the stock suspension setup)

AS the others have mentioned about rebuild shops dedicated to rebuilding streering racks and such. Have a look in the yellow pages to find a place near you. Alot of these places also rebuild CV shafts as well along with the steering racks.
