Can anyone suggest a good book or books that relate to engine building? Something with a lot of detail and suggestions?

A book is not really going to help you "build" a motor...and can help guide you. What is it you are looking to do? Rebuild a top end or are you looking to break down a motor and rebuild from the bottom to the top?

Right now I'm just trying to gain knowledge. I have no plans as of yet, due to lack of financial means. However, I would like to start educating myself prior to actually being able to get my hands dirty. I understand a book is not going to "build" a motor, guidance and suggestions are all I'm looking for. My first project, should the opportunity arise, is to pull my motor, tear it down, and rebuild it, preferably with some minor modifications. This would require, I imagine, resurfacing, measuring tolerances, weighing the pros and cons of certain upgrades, etc. I'm sure there is no one book that is going to provide all the information I'm looking for, I'm just looking for a place to get started and my mind thinking.

Well there are some good books I have purchased in the past.

Autozone has a few also...just look for Mustang/Ford 302ci performance books. They usually give you the do's and don'ts for 302's.
