I don’t see anything in my repair manuals about this shock absorber. I can only assume what it is for but is this on anyone else’s 95 GT convertible?

That’s the quad shock. It’s there to stabilize the axle but a lot of people remove them especially when running wide tires.

Yup. Quad shock damper. Gabriel 14039 is a standard replacement for them if needed.
If you have stock control arms you'll likely want to keep them as they help control axle movement and wideup due to play in the old, worn out bushings in the control arms. With better quality (aftermarket) arms they can usually be eliminated.
