Here is a cool one! A direct replacement firewall mounted steering shaft bearing to replace an old deteriorating factory unit.
Having a hard time installing my MM shaft through the detroit bearing. Have any helpful hints on how to align shaft and get bearing pieces to slide together?

Could be a scenario where a little bit of sandpaper and polishing on the shaft to get the exact fit needed?

Its more the firewall bearing insert is being a PIA. Think I'll try to take bearing and sleeves off then reattach it all once shaft and sleeve are secured

OH ok, i get it. You 1st mounted the firewall bearing and then trying to slide shaft through at crazy angles?

I think your idea of sliding all together then installing is a better scenario. And you may find that some shaft polishing will be needed to slip that bearing on. Hopefully not to much tho, because thats work and its not fun.

Thanks for this! I got the LMR oem replacement (that is actually for later models, but fits) and is still sloppy. I will be ordering one of these.

Update. Got bearing securely in place and steering shaft also. Holy crap does it tighten up the entire thing. PSA: do not try and do this by yourself. Extra set of hands made all the difference.
