Hey new to the boards, just a got a 96 mustang gt last week for 300 dollars. It has 172k miles on it. From searching on here i have been reading about the pi swap and how prefered it is. But i have a question about a 302. My dad has one in the basement, its punched .30 over, steel power pistons and comp cams, its a push rod motor, will the PI heads bolt to that engine?? If also will my transmission bolt to that motor, im new to cars and dont really much about engines and compatibility. If the transmission will bolt to it, do you think it would be better to build 302 and swap it in the stang, or just swap pi heads on my stock engine? Any help is appriciated, thanks in advance =c)

Btw hi everyone =c)

The 302 swap will not allow the pi heads to be bolted to it. A lot will be needed to swap the motor, including k member and wiring, to name two. The trans... I dont know.

Ahh ok, thanks for the advice, im not to knowing when it comes to the core of engine work. Would getting the whole pi swap ( from powerheads.com, Buying the stage 2 kit) And buying new forged pistons and piston rods be my best bet?

You can piece together the pi head swap for much cheaper... but buying the full kit is certainly easier. An internal rebuild too wouldnt hurt because of the high mileage. I say just pick up a PI motor and a supercharger for the same amount you would be spending on what you just asked about.

The 302/5.0 and 4.6/Modular have nothing in common and no interchangeability at all.

If you want to put the 302 in try to find a junked 94-5 GT and get the K-member, trans, harness etc to make it work on the cheap. It is easier t find a nice 99-04 GT engine and go from there.
