pictures speak for them selves....Im kinda noob to 5.0's so what im asking is....Im always on a budget so what are the best bang for buck bolt ons for this eng... headers are expensive since this is a mn12 frame not mustang but if stang headers fit I don't know as of now..Is a 70mm throttle body worth it if snagged used?? what about the smog pump and other 5.0 stuff I know nothing about that I can delete, NO EMISSIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! car as of rite now has absolutely NO issues, perfect idle, pull blablabla..just needs a starter as this one doesn't always enguage the 1st crank, a windshield as it has a crack by passnegers side, an antenna and sideskirts yesyesyes I know I know..some how the outers on the very lowers rokcers is rotted even though the underbody still has factory color and not a spec of rust..these cars had a problem withnot draining water from the rockers, all ford needed to do was drill a hole in the bottom front and rear of the rocker for it to drain...ugh...o well..here she is and miles are correct !
I do already have a explorer upper and lower but I know it wont clear my hood but ive read I can use the explorer lower with my upper,is that even worth it at all? I also have an 80mm mafs and 24lb injectors, I know I don't need the 24's yet...

Nice Cougar brother!!!

Try this combo for easy fun:

Custom cold air with a Cobra MAS maybe?
94/95 Cobra intake
70mm throttle body
1.7 rockers
better shorty headers

As for emissions, ditch the smog pump/bracket, cap the tube leading to the cats and run a shorter belt

do explorers have the same size mafs as a cobra? and isn't the explorer intake damn near flow same as a cobra??? is it worth spending 250 bucks for shorties for it? and if I get shorties should I ditch the front cats ??? are underdrive pullies any good for 5.0's? I know they did jackshit on a 4.6 sohc...

Yea.. It's very similar.. I'll sell you one :)

250 for new headers? Can you use some used mustang shorties? I say screw all four cats :)

oh and udp? Don't bother dude..

5.0 factoid #1: you won't make meaningful power levels until you at least upgrade to some GT40 heads.. That heavy MN12 will need the extra oomph..

Explorer intake is the same as any other GT40 intake except for the upper so no, it will not work with your factory upper. If you do run the Explorer intake, you'll need the intake elbow, just like us 94-95 guys. I'd be looking for some better heads if you're really wanting to give it some more power. GT40 topend and a good cam and you'll see some decent gains.

Go the junk yard, get some good heads from an Explorer or Mountianeer for it while you are at it. You may have to get some new headers for it as well as I believe those are p heads, however ones from a Mustang should work. Other than that, the 5.0 is a great engine that is easy to work on, a lot easier than the 4.6. Just about anything that you can do to a 5.0 mustang you can do to that engine as well.

yea, I know...this is the exact same eng used in th 94-95 mustangs....I don't think a head job id be ready for yet as ive never even done a manifold or even a sparkplug removal on these engines...ille have to do my homework on headers because I don't know if mustang headers are the same though, I know these headers actually have the 02 sensors in the drivers side header not the exhaust pipes but that could always be kicked back into the exhaust pipe but id worry about mustang headers not clearing my steering rack or frame...

Don't we play this SAME game over and over and over again every 4 months???

lol.....However this is a Cougar, so he might keep this one for 6.

Anyhow, you did the heads on your 4.6.........even though it didnt work out as well as you hoped. The 5.0 heads are a lot easier, you dont have to mess with cams in the head, setting a timing chain, removing the timing cover, ect......just make sure you put the pushrods in the right order.

My dad who can barely change his own oil can swap 5.0L heads. It's simple.

^ that's what I like to hear..main reason for getting a 5.0....because lol my npi 97 cat woulda walked on this one...4.6 even npi with a 4r70 is way better than this 5.0 aod..BUUUT this 5.0 is lowlow mile and has fricken torque to it, lol feels like im driving a truck...
I also went out and looked at my stock manifold and the explorer looks WAYY taller, also dropped my car off to have a new starter put in and windshield and ordered side skirts already...
And if I do a head swap shouldn't I go and upgrade the rockers then too?? I think cam would be the last thing I would do and even then nothing big.

o yaaa.. what about electric cooling fan, doesn't that help free up power to better turn the crank shaft?
