Why not just do the cam while you have the heads off? Otherwise, you're literally going to have to take every single piece right back off again to swap cams.

Cams? The 5.0 is a single cam engine, and is rather easy to do.....you dont need to take off nearly as much junk with the 5.0 as you do for the 4.6.

Yeah, camS. You got to have more than one to actually do some swapping... you know there's the stock one in the motor... and then the one you have that you want to put in. That makes 2 cams.

But anyways, it just makes more sense to do everything at once. You'll have to remove the intake again to swap heads and when you have the heads off is the perfect time to pull the cam and change it. Otherwise you're going to be doing a lot of the same work over and over again just to dig deeper in the motor. Any "issues" from swapping intakes will pop up again when you take the intake off again.

Regardless, you're going to need more than an intake to have that Cougar begin to keep up with a newer PI'd GT.

I know the 5.0 has one cam . and on a 4.6 cam swap was easy as FK, I didn't have todo timing or anything..i took valve covers off, wedges a screwdriver on timing chain to release pressure and took the old npi out and threw in a npi and popped in the rockers...took an hour and a half..

and im guessing this car will need hci, exhaust and mabymaby gears to pull away from an 02 gt..o ya and a tune too

I am sorry, when I hear "swap the cams" I think of a DOHC engine.......I am looking at a cam swap as more of a single process. Swapping the cams is the same process twice in my mind.

Ding! Ding! DING!
We have a winner........then you might be able to pull from a 02 gt lol.

What I am saying is that the 5.0 Cougar/Tbirds have some huge disabilities in a drag race. If you want to beat a stock gt, here is what you need to do:

Change out the 2.73 gears for a set of 3.73's or 4.10's
Add a shift Kit
By doing these, you will make up for some of the power that the auto trans eats up. That and the rear gearing sucks in those things.

Do a h/c/i swap......that will take care of a lot of the faults of the stock 5.0 with the garbage e7 heads and bs cam. The stock 5.0 intake is very restrictive.

Do a full exhaust including headers and mid pipe. Delete all of the smog garbage as well.

By doing all of this, you might, and this is a stretch, but might be in the mid to high 13's. Probably more so low 14's. Spraying anything more than a 150 shot at that year engine and you are taking a huge risk.

lol, ive been thinking turbo actually...I know everybody knocks ebay BUUT I know the exact kit my buddy put on his 5.0 and it made over 450 to the wheels...the turbo kit with turbo, all needed piping, clamps, bov blablabla everything needed was like 500 bucks only and had an intercooler, turbo headers were like 150 and then the fuel system was under 300...

I could get that kit and turbo 5.0 headers lets say 800, 36lb injectors and a fuel pump under 200 (gtp injectors every where in junkyards) and a tune and I could make some good power for under 1500...and my buddies car has had that turbo on for atleast 10 passes at the 1/4mile ( I don't know his times) and he drives it in nice weather and not one issue yet..

Too much power lol....Seriously though, from what I understand he sold it to help someone out....a totally selfless act.

I sold the car to help pay bills around here as the wife has been veryvery sick and had to take disability until we get it all figured out, I cut my losses and got a lesser car..i also pretty much gave the car away to the guy who bought it, he was well how do I put it kindly??? slow..? I coulda probly kept all my extra parts, demodded it and got more cash off the guy but its not my style...he really seemed to be into the cars sooooo it is what it is. lol when he was test driving it I told him to gun it and he grabbed the wheel when it kicked in like he was gonna die and let it rip,he was cheesing all the way back to my house....I also told him about every single issue the car had even down to a scratch...

I have lots of plans for this cougar but I don't know when they can start, I also lost my job 3 weeks ago...I have a few parts that ille have to research better that can go on and pep it up a little for now and give me something to play with as this is one of my only hobbies as of the past 5 years or so..
Time are tough and luck is weak latly....

You're right, an eBay turbo kit is probably a much better idea than just doing a H/C/I all at once. I've never heard of anyone having issues putting a turbo kit from eBay after install, much less complicated than doing H/C/I as well...

What im about to say is not being rude but a serious statement.
You joined a mustang site and have not ever even owned a mustang.
You keep going from car to car thinking you getting a badass deal, you said the same thing with your last car, just get a damn mustang already and quit getting granny cars.
