I'm having some trouble with fumes. From my 94 GT. They're pretty bad. I can't even sit still at a stoplight without them filling the cab. Windows down or up, it doesn't matter. If I let the car sit still while its running, the fumes make it nearly unbearable to be inside. What causes this? It doesn't sound like there is an exhaust leak anywhere. This all started about 3 weeks ago. Maybe something is going on internally and making the exhaust gasses a lot stronger?

Oh yeah its got the stock engine, and a 5 speed trans.

Could be a exhaust leak at the header or at the midpipe. Those two places will stank a car up!

Assuming the car has 100% stock exhaust also

Check the weather-stripping on your trunk as well. You have OEM exhaust pipes? Cats? Mufflers? They can rust out as well.

Yes I have OEM exhaust all the way. The car is largely stock save for shocks and springs. Bought a new house I'm fixing up so that's where all the money has been going lol.

My weather strip in the trunk ain't so great around where the latch is at the bottom. I'll check to see if the console gets hot anywhere.

EDIT:

Also I heard that this smell comes sometimes when a catylitic converter dies?

Never did fix this problem. But now, the smell is no longer fumes, is gasoline. And its bad. The console does not seem to be getting hot. The weather stripping on the trunk doesn't seem to have any problems. Bump for my last question. Could it be possible that I need new cats?

Have you checked your fuel filler neck grommit. I know when mine leaked I could smell that thing like it was a fart in the wind.
