Ok, so when I blew my engine, my oil pressure gauge was not working at all. I am wondering about installing an oil pressure gauge and a water temperature gauge. I am thinking of installing a electrical oil pressure gauge, since it seems like it will be easiest. Can I just connect the gauge to the new sending unit and disconnect the stock gauge? Or, does not having the stock gauge connected mean that I will have a light on or some shutoff?

I will also be installing a water temp gauge, should I do the same for that?

No you should be fine disconnecting the stock sending unit and and gauge. The computer has its own temp sensor on the heater hose tube that goes into the lower intake by the thermostat.

For the oil pressure gauge, you might need to make a fitting to make the sending unit fit...What brand are you gonna be installing?

mechanical is easier by all means, but i prefer electrical. the water temo is easy it is located on the lower intake manifold behind the dizzy. take out that sensor and put a the new one in( may have to find a brass fitting to adapt) as for the oil pressure depending on the size of the new sender it may not fit right in to place so you will need to make the length you need out of brass fittings i used a a couple as well as a 45 degree bend brass fitting to make it face downwards so i could put it on.

ok, well it sounds like i may just use mechanical since they are easier and I will need to most likely make an adapter for the oil pressure anyway. I had looked at paul's thread about installing gauges and thought i'd ask about the electrical ones since he used mechanical.
I'm thinking of going with some sunpro faze gauges for now and upgrade later. I just need something better than stock.

i had oreilly equus mechanical gauges in my car and they worked great for about 8 months then the mechanical oil line split, so i ordered prosport tinted electrical gauges from ebay and they work flawlessly so far. they came from hong kong and took about 6 days but i think was worth the weight. those are the only electrical senders i am used to so i had to give you feedback based on them. as for the mechanical ones i didnt have to get any fittings for them, the ones they had in the box worked great.

Autometers aren't that expensive.. i think both water temp and oil press (both elec) are around $40.. They came with a few
brass adapters, and I used some elec wire, solder, and misc connections and wired them up in less than an hour.

I like autometer, they are made in America. They usually come with everything you need to install em too.
