there cool theyre noisey as hell and you dont have to worry about skipping a tooth but when which ive yet to see a gear drive break it will most likely be a big problem and take out the whole motor. some people say there annoying loud. my new combo ill be running one but will see for how long.ive heard them plenty of times and installed on customer cars but have yet to have one in my own daily so will see how long it takes to piss me off

On my 85 z28 I had a 350 with an edelbrock gear drive on it. I got it bc I thought it would be bad ass to sound like a blower whine. It was bad ass but it had like 4-5k on it and it started making all sorts of racket bc it got in the idler and drive gears don't waste your money go with a cloyes double roller.

it sounds badass, thats pretty much it. ive heard its harder on your valvetrain because of more vibration etc, but ive heard people argue that it doesnt so idk.

I'm just curious really about my Gt.
My Dad just got a 94 Cobra and it has the timing gears. They do sound cool at idle but I've haven't been in it on the hwy yet. Would it be wise to change them out for a roller chain.

I can sense your sarcasm. Its strong in this one...

Id put in a roller. The few installs i did were fast, simple, and cost effective. The gears are more costly, noisy, and "more reliable" than a chain that lasts 175000 miles... lol

sacarism? On this site? never.
Is there any long term damage that can come from running the gears? Aside from it being loud and annoying.

A gear drive adds no advantage of any kind that makes the risk of running one worth it.

If you like the whine, than your no better than those guys running fake turbo sounding inserts in their exhaust. The only reason people look is because they think there could be a real supercharger close by, not because they love your whirring whining 250hp Ford of fury.

I had a friend with one and his 351W had a direct failure do to the gear drive, but I'm short on details, as it has been a few years. Call up any major reputable FORD engine builder and ask them what they think. Ask them how many street car engines would ever need a gear drive. Plus the accu-drive isn't even rated above 7000rpm.... hmmmm wonder why?

Yea , these r roller motors why would u want gears in there ? Keep it roller , yea the gears sound cool , but I don't see a advantage on going that direction . Just my opinion

Actually if u wanna do something cool go with a jesel belt drive .. Yummmmm

Gears came in my last short block. Ran them for years, no issues. You can hear them in idle, but not while driving. I have heard that they cause vibrations which can set off knock sensors. My setup ran 5k rpm on a regular basis, no ill effects, or issues from the gear drive. A good double roller is just as good for function IMO.
