Ok guys this is my first post ive been searching but not finding everything im looking for so here it goes. First i have a 98 gt auto. I have a friend in a junkyard and they have 20 or so police cars in it. My overall goal is a 5 speed swap and my car has 200,000 plus miles so i figured if i do the trans for an extra 300 i can get the better engine too.

1 What year interceptor do i need?
2 what is better about the engine?
3 Do i need the ecu also?
4 Is there anything else that i need besides the engine?

thanks guys keep in mind im new to this so dont flame too hard.

you want a PI motor. you can tell the difference between the PI motor and NPI motor by the intake manifold, the valve covers, alternator (i beleive) amongst other things.

Some will argue that the interceptors have a more agressive tune, and therefore you require the ECU, but im not sure about that.

the engine has better flowing heads, a more reliable intake manifold, and an easier oil-fill on the valve covers.

I suggest the motor and new motor mounts.

i beleive thats right. the ECU is telling the tranny to shift and to unlock the TQ converter and what not... im not sure what it will do after a tranny swap...

anyways, you can get your computer worked on at any performance shop with a dyno...

im sure reflashing your stock ECU is perfectly fine

if you dont reflash the ECU after a 5-speed swap, the car will hesitate around the RPMs that the auto would normally shift. it will also throw a check engine light and the O/D Off light will be illuminated or flashing. you can still drive the car around, it will just be an annoyance until it is reflashed

The Interceptor engines are no different from a Mustang engine. Same everything, nothing is improved.
Only improvement would be the engine from a PI Vic 01+ or 99+ Mustang V8.
