Took advantage of the warm day Monday to start the rear axle change from 3.23 GT to 3.73 Cobra. On the good side, once I remove three more bolts on the U-joint flange I'll have the axle totally disconnected. On the bad side, I don't have a lift so was working with jack stands on cold concrete. My entire body hurts! Kneeled on loose socket and hurt a knee, back and arms hurt from trying to wrench in positions I am not used to. Gotta drag myself off the couch... Glad I'm off work!

Yikes! I got one of the four bolts holding the driveshaft to the diff loose before I quit. Sprayed the others with Liquid Wrench, hope it works. My wife pointed out I'm so beat I didn't even want a beer tonight. Got her worried...

Do yourself a favor. The next time you see a SnapOn tool truck parked somewhere, go buy their 6" long 12-point 12mm Ford driveshaft bolt removal impact socket. This is what we used at the Mustang performance shop I worked for, and using it with an air impact really is the best way to do the job. Takes less than 20 seconds to do all four.

I was using a 3/8 drive 12 point with a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter and a 1/2 breaker bar. Afraid of stripping the bolt head, then I'm really screwed. I'm on vacation today, will see if any of the pro auto parts stores have one and if not my buddy at the corner garage can probably get me one. Hey, maybe he has one and I can borrow it!

When i lived in Washington that was what made me stop working on cars for awhile lol. Something about that cold concrete that chills you to the bone. I could feel every injury i ever had hahaha

Cold concrete and cold hands, then dropping a wrench on your knuckles or something. It's like punishment from the Almighty!

like I said earlier I got now my 2nd set of mechanics gloves and feel spoiled when I put them on from the warm hands to the snot wipe fabric they put on the back of the thumbs/pointer finger. For $10-20 they are well worth it, the last pair lasted me 2 yrs/seasons. Check out home depot for a good selection harbor frieght has some cheapies but they never fit worth a crap.

Forgot to mention - a 1/2 inch ratchet slipped and put a nice goose egg on my forehead. My wife said good thing it didn't hit me someplace important

After getting up 100 times a day off the concrete I am beat for 3 days. If I want to work on the car both Saturday and Sunday I have to pace myself and slow down or it takes me all week to recuperate. I read some these posts and remember back when I could get that much done in a day.

I know we all understand my excitement to see that the space heater had warmed the garage up from 51, to 62. Just past that point where the tools and everything is too cold. I don't mind working in a sweatshirt and hat or actually my ridetech hoody has been my fav but I don't want to wear a coat to work on it.
