good build for my car?

alright ive finally decided to park my car and build it. ive thought hard about the 347 or 331 stroker kits but ive heard alot of people that do this, it really dont last long. im wanting a easy 400hp to the wheels. and a 347 i know would get me there easy but i want something that will last longer. thats why ive been looking into a 306 with a good h/c/i combo. im just wondering if any of you all are running a 306 and what kinda power you all are pushin with the h/c/i set up or what would help me out with a 306 to get me 400 to the wheels. im not really on to tight of a budget but id like to keep it as cheap as possible. but i know horsepower is expensive.

oh and this is my first build. and im wanting to go all motor before nitrous, turbo, etc..
