are gt40 y303 heads a good buy at $710? i need to know in the next couple hours :)

You can get used TW's for probably another $100.

I wouldn't spend $700 on GT40Y's. If your willing to get them ported, than they can go a long way. You can get them to flow better than a stock twisted wedge but that means spending another $300-$400 in port work.

i can do the port work but i already have studs and im on a tight budget, its down to gt40's or edelbrock heads and try and find the edelbrocks for around the same price

It is your call..Edelbrocks will make more power than a GT40Y out of the box.

If you can do professional port work why are you questioning it?? Not everyone can do port work and do it RIGHT...

Going into a head with a dremel is not good unless you know what to do. You can actually make a head perform worse if you don't know exactly what you are doing.

Sometimes it is worth it to look around. My buddy just picked up a set of stage 3 ported Edelbrock Performer RPM heads for ~$900...new.

This is your call man - you know what your goals are.

Check with some local machine shops, people will drop heads off and never pick em up so the shops will usually sell em for a good price

true... oh, and btw, i can do the work but i haven't in a while, that coupled with not knowing sbf's to well and you may understand why i was iffy about the heads, they have since been passed up ;)
