Got my front Cobra brakes installed, but...

I finally decided on the color & got them painted a few weeks ago. I installed them over the weekend and everything went great except I have a small leak at the connection of the hard brake line & the soft caliper brake line. I thought that I didn't have it seated properly so I disconnected it, inspected the connection points, cleaned them off again and reconnected it yesterday afternoon. It leaks less but still does. I can see the fluid seeping out of the connection when I had the wife apply the brakes.
Could it be that I need to have the hard line trimmed back a little & re-flared or do I need to replace the soft caliper line? I looked at the end of the caliper brake line and didn't see a small crush washer in there or anything. The passenger side is nice and dry. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you previously cut the line and reflare them and if you did reflare them, did you double flare or single? And Is the fluid seeping out of the nut like between the threads or on the top where there is no threads. The picture isn't your car obviously, but it is similar and should help narrow down your leaking area.

I didn't reflare either of the hard lines. I just unscrewed it from the GT caliper hose & attached the Cobra caliper hose.
It is leaking from the connection of the hard & soft lines between the threads like your top note & arrow.

If the threads fit fine, and are not loose, then there should not be any leaks, or any need to flare the hard line. Check what kind of thread is on the new soft line, and the one you too off (course vs. fine).

From what you said the threads may not be fitting properly. Like what ReplicaR stated check the threads.

I had a similar problem when I did my brakes on another car accept I bought the wrong fitting and while the threads matched, the bolt was too short and didn't tighten up properly. While it fit/felt tight, the length of the fitting was wrong and created a leak. If the threads are not matched properly that is most likely your problem then. I don't see why you would need to reflare your lines either if the thread or bolt is the problem.

A buddy of mine suggested using "line wrenches" specially designed for brake lines & fuel lines. He said you can tighten the fittings better with these.
It's baffling because the other side went together without a hitch. The setup I bought came with calipers, rotors & brake lines. I rebuilt the calipers with new seals and bought new copper crush washers.

I had the same issue with a friends car and i gave the line about 3/4 more of a turn then i thought it should have got and it stopped leaking but i was sure it was about to break somthing. Brake likes can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

That's what I'm afraid of - damaging the lines or connections somehow. Did you use one of those flare-end wrenches?

I've got the leak stopped by tightening the connection up "just a little more". One other thing came up after the install. I was hearing some rattling up front and I thought I must have screwed something up somehow. Eh, it turned out that I needed to install some anti-rattle clips on my pads. The pads didn't come with them :dontknow: So I headed over to my local autozone and picked up a disc brake hardware kit. It came with the 4 clips, 2 caliper pins & the clip washers. Got those on and all is well.

Another happy ending...

That's bizzare. I've never once had to install any kind of anti rattle clips on brake pads for Cobra calipers, and I've used 4 different manufacturers (Hawk, PBR, StopTech, Porterfield). What pad did that kit come with?

Of the big 4 auto parts places (Auto Zone, NAPA, Oreilly's & AdvanceAuto) out here only AdvanceAuto had front pads in stock. I went with the semi-metallic pads. I didn't even think about anti rattle clips until after I had installed everything and went for a test drive. I compared these to the original pads that were shipped with the caliper setup I bought and didn't see the clips on those either, but after closer inspection & looking at the pics in my Haynes manual realized that they were missing.
Interestingly, the only store that carried the hardware kit was Auto Zone...
