its done now. i had a strang check engine light and the cars went full speed as soon as the car started. it died at a trafic light and i had to push it about a block out fo the way. it sat for about 45 minutes and when i retured to work on it it fired up and seems fine. no cel no strang fans everything is working as it should. i will throw a timing light on it tormorrow and make sure im still at 13 degrees.

Re: gt40 intake swap. with pics

i had a bare 95 cobra upper and lower. moved everything from my old intake over and swapped over the tps and iac to the performance products tb. i used arp bolts for the lower. I had a full top end gasket set and for awhile there i thought i was going to be using the head gaskets but got lucky the broken bolt finaly gave up.

once i get the dist back in and re time it i will start on my 1.7 roller rockers. altho i've heard they can be to tall for the stock valve covers, anyone with first hand experiance wanna chime in on that?

Re: gt40 intake swap. with pics

:-/ i not know mch about the roller rocker thing. i got a gt40 intake for christmas. and im just wodering what all i need in order to swap it. i know i need the intake adaptor....? elbow.... thing lol. but hope to have like 30 lb inject and a 70? mm throttle boday lol when i do it. figured it would be easier to do all of that at the same time. did you have to clean any of the intake?

Re: gt40 intake swap. with pics

i had to clean it for sure, used parts are used parts, always clean them. i got lucky and found myself a 95 gt40 so no elbow for me. also it is very tight around the tb area, i wish i had the motivation to hide some wires for a bit more room.

Re: gt40 intake swap. with pics

i didnt have it hot tanked but i did do a bit of home cleaning. again i was lucky with the one i found, it is a low mile unit so there was not much black "gunk" in it or under it. brake cleaner some tooth brushes a shop vac and some elbow grease and you would be amazed at how clean things come out.

Re: gt40 intake swap. with pics !!!update!!!

im finished with the swap and pretty happy with everything. at first it was throwing a check engine light and the fans were running full speed at start up. then it died about 45 minutes later it fired up and has been totaly fine since. no cel or dieing.

the stocker brace hits the back of the intake on the drivers side, and the front all the way across. i dont have much extra money at this point so i will be modifying the stocker whenever i get around to it.

yes i had to get a gasket set. i was planning on putting a set of gt40 heads on at the same time. but bills cought me in a rough patch and i sold the heads. i think i paid around $135 for the set. full top end kit. i know i paid a bit on the high side but it was a local parts store so whatever.

i did have to make my own throttle body gasket and order the gt40 upper to lower gasket, none of the parts stores carried them but they were more then willing to soak up the overnight shipping charge and sell it to me for $9.

i have 24# injectors that i was gonna run with the heads along with the crane 1.7 roller rockers. i just set the timing tonight, after the swap base was at 6. bumpped it to 13 and it seems to love it. i am still running stock orange top 19# injectors. the car runs great, you can hear the cam a little better now.

it was a worth while project and i consider it a very good investment for the budget minded.
car pulls nice and strong. i feel as if it lost a little torque down low but seemed to pick up a bit of top end pull. 3500-6k just screams now. (haha that sounds funny saying that about a nearly stock car)

the roller rockers will go on this next weekend and hopefully get a bit more down low and up top

money and time are the two main factors... i spent $1100 total on parts. the heads had new valves 3 angle vavle job fully cleaned and shaved .010, clean 95 gt40 intake upper and lower, 24# injectors, a 95 cobra cam, 70mm throttle body, 1.7 crane roller rockers and a chip for the computer.

i sold the heads for $400 when money was tight, my stupid dog got ahold of the chip for the computer and chewed it to shreds.

add $30 for intake bolts and $140 for a gasket set. and about 6 hours install time after almost a year of sitting on these parts. from what i have read the stock injectors will handle upto about 300 hp. i know im not close to that right now so im keeping them for down the road. just remember to change your maf if you change your injectors.

if i had to make a guess i would say my car is at about 200 wheel hp give or take 10hp

no the gaskets dont really cost all that much for just the intake, i think $40 is what a parts store around me said. then add the $10 for the upper to lower gasket. mine cost more because it had intake exhaust head valve seals o rings and loads more i always end up buying more then i need to do a job incase anything goes wrong and the motor needs to be dug into a bit more.
