Well my cousin called me yesterday to ask me if i wanted his 1.6 speed pro roller rockers for 100 bucks nad of course i said yea they are 1.6 by the way, then he added oh what the hell i'll thow in the cam too for 100 bucks!!!! I was like fuck yea... ok the cam is an x303, i know i know you guys are not real fans of the alphabet cams but hey for 100 bucks i think i'll take it. So i go pick it up and it is awesome. here is what i'm trying to build and you guys help me out here. I'll be installing a 65mm throttle body with no elbow, a fully ported explorer intake manifold with a 1in phenolic spacer, gt40 heads from a local junkyard with double springs i think a 550 lift before valve float or something, 1.6 rollers and of course the x303 cam and i already have my 1 3/4 longtubes installed so that is not a biggie, for tuning I have a tweecer r/t and a autometer wideband O2 so the cam won't be too dificult to dial in. Now some of you know i have a 175 shot of nitrous already installed and i was going to upgrade to a 250 shot but since i'm getting this little set up going on then i think i'll leave it at the 175 for now. Keep in mind i don't want 300 hp to the wheels i'm happy with a fun daily driver with let's say 250 horses and that's it for the rest of the power the nitrous will take care of it... I have a question tho will I be able to run this cam on the gt40 heads without notching the pistons? I really can't afford notching the pistons..... and should i be able to attain my goal? I know th ecam is way to big but i read from peoples combos that it was a great nitrous cam and it had tons of power in top end which is what i'm looking for i hate having to shift at 5200 rpms i want 6k... Please guys chime in and let me know what i should do....

you shouldnt have to notch pistions for a e cam. Sounds like you got a good deal though :santa_afro: are you running that 175shot on a stock bottom end?

I had an X cam with 1.7 RR on gt40's with the stock bottom end a long time ago and it was OK (on a fox) but to make sure just in case you might want to check piston to valve clearence...

im not suprised about the 175 shot on a stock bottom end. i know i guy from high school that put a 200 dry shot on his 93gt which was not forged pistons. that car never blew up. as long as you have a good amount of fuel it will handle it.

now about the x-cam. i would definetly check piston to valve clearance. you could probably get away with the x-cam with 1.6 rockers but the 1.7s may be cutting it close. im not 100 percent sure though as ive never done it before.

ditch that cam anyways... I'd save that 100 bucks and get a custom cam...I've ran my fair share of abc cams and off the shelfers and non have the drivabilty and POWER that my custom does....call FTI..

I disagree, a custom cam doesn't have much point with such a mild combination and stock heads. I have an FTI cam in one of my cars, but I wouldn't spend the money for a very mild combination.

well i went to the machine shop today and the owner told me to get the heads that i have at my house which are shaved like 0.30 of an inch and install the bigger 1.95-1.60 valves sitting in my room and just get a different cam like a B cam. Yes i agree with paul for such a mild set up a custom grind is not needed. i have just looked around and those thumper heads have stock size valves and they flow more than gt40x aluminum heads like 215cfm on the intake. These heads have neck snapping throttle response. This is more or less what i'm looking for, I want a mild 250hp mustang daily driven and then add the nitrous that will put me in the 400hp range and crazy amounts of torque. what should i do guys i'm on a real budget here like 500 bucks please help me here i want to get the car done before the new year comes... thanks in advance.

Sorry I was thinking he was going with the gt40's heads/intake and thought in terms of him spraying at the track. Of course if he had stock heads nothing but the stock cam should be used.

I'm skeptical about spending 500 bux on thumper heads when you can save and find used trick flow's or some top proline's for 700 or so.. The thumpers are still e7's and I know they work them pretty well but I don't know anyone personally that run them.

Yep, I would never buy Thumper heads. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Buy a set of used aftermarket performance aluminum heads - you'll be happier in the end.

so you guys think i should install the 65mm throttle body, Ported explorer intake with no elbow, 1" phenolic spacer, Ported and polished and shaved E7TE's, with the stock cam or if you guys think an E cam would be better, 1.6 speed pro roller rockers and i also got pullies no A/C and 1 3/4 longtubes with 2 1/2 " x pipes and bullet mufflers. How many HP should i be able to pull out of this little combo remember that the pistons and block are in great shape and it pulls very nice even though it is stock. last weekend I went 8.902 in the 1/8th mile with hte car as it sits and a more than spectacular 2.0 60ft (stock gears). What do you think oh I'll also have the 550 lift double springs and retainers installed.

OR should I notch the pistons and run this x303 cam with all of the above????
