I disassembled my shortblock I had in my garage and it looks like I'm going to have to sleeve a couple cylinders so I'm contemplating buying another block, probably a teksid. Anyways, what did you all spend on your complete forged bottom? Give me an idea of what you bought and what you paid for it. I'm probably going to try to get my hands on a mark or cobra complete engine and tear it down since I cannot justify staying 2v in a F/I situation. Thanks

Teksid block is going to run you around $150 -250 on average. My bottom cost me $1600 and what i did was just hand my guy the block and crank, then the $1600 took care of the pistons, rods, rings, bearings, machine shop work and assembly. Then it was another $250 for long block installation plus timing for my Comp cams.

Prices will vary of course but that just gives you an idea.

Usually pistons run about $500, rods are around $450, if your staying N/A then your cast crank will be more than enough and even if you go forged crank you can find one for not too much.

Good Luck

Once the car loses its street car status I want it have about 650rwhp but that's off in the future. Fox Lake racing said the stock crank is good for around 650rwhp so I might just keep it since I have one that's in perfect condition. I don't want to have to do this again so a complete cobra longblock is looking pretty good, that way I get the teksid block and forged crank. I'll be buying the 4v heads anyway so I might as well but the whole thing.

I did shopping around for over 3 months before having all the parts i needed:
97 Shortblock: Given to me
New .20 over Manley 18cc pistons: $377 shipped after Microsoft 30% cashback
New Manley h-beams: $295 shipped
Cobra Crank: $160 shipped
New Speed Pro Main Bearings: $83
New Clevite Race Rod Bearings: $79
New .020 Speed Pro Rings $135
New MMR side Bolts $39
New ARP Main studs: $90 shipped
Balancing $125
Double Torque plate bored and honed to a 4.7L: $270

I'm surprised Jones paid $250 for assembly of entire longblock, usually that's 400-650; think about it a gear install is like $30-400 in labor usually.

if plan on going forged pick up a stroker kit, the price difference is minimal.
I wouldn't sleeve a block unless you were going big bore.

I won't even consider a stroker kit, these blocks do not lend themselves to stroker kits very well, in my opinion. I'm not saying that stroker kits can't run fine without any problems, I personally just don't like it. The pistons sit far to low in the bore for my liking. You guys seem to have gotten really good deals on all the parts, I guess I will just have to shop around some more. I'll probably just do the assembly myself, don't really feel like paying the machine shop anymore money. I've been keeping my eye out for parts but most of the time they are not local and the people selling them don't have any feedback. I don't feel like sending $300-$400 out to someone I don't know.

I found good deals because it's something i spend a lot of time doing regardless of building anything. It's hard to do.
