I finished my H/C/I swap this week and the car runs perfect. Idle's perfect and runs just as good as it did before i did the H/C/I swap ...

I have not driven the car much but the car seems to not feel any faster ..

I have not taken it over 3000 rpm yet but it really feels exactly the same..

Also I called a mustang tuning business in Sacramento CA and they told me the car does not need a tune if it runs perfect ...

I thought that the car would need a tune to adjust to the H/C/I and give the car proper A/F ratio and max power....

Rebuilt Short block
Trickflow 170 heads ported
Custom Schneider Cam 216.220 duration with 528/528 lift with a 115 lob sep
Trickflow Track heat upper and lower
Ford SVO 1.6 Rockers
6.7 pushords
Edelbrock elbo
BBK 65 MM T body
Stock Mass air ( have 24 lb but wanted to wait for mass air )
Stock injectors
stock fuel reg
Cold air
underdrive pullys
shorty heads
x pipe no cats
373 gears

I thought you always needed to have 94-95 cars tuned to get the max out of them ....

I don't know why that guy said that... you most probably need a tune. My car really didn't run too bad after my swap, but I gained 40 if not more rwhp the tuner said. The car definitely needs a tune to adjust for the changed that you made. The computer's af ratio is probably running super lean because it's set up for a stock motor which is way more restrictive and the computer's timing needs to be fixed as your power band has most likely changed drastically further from the stock top end. You need a tune, just dont take it to the guy who said you didnt need it lol

Where are you located at again? Idk what you have available as far as tuners go but lidio at alternative auto is pretty well known in the mustang world and if you could justify the trip id highly recommend him

With those ported trickflow heads and that intake you should be moving a lot of air, but that cam seems way too mild. The specs look like that of a stock cam with more lift... take it higher than 3k I'm sure you'll feel a difference.

Yes, I'd be careful running it hard until you get a tune...flowing more air is gonna make it lean on the top end. Congrats on the install, get it on a dyno and post some numbers!

What is the RPM range of the cam you used? I have an E303 which is a dog till 3000 rpm then runs like a scalded dog. Go find a spot where you can wind it up and see what you feel once you hit 3000+.

Most of the Mustang cams I see are built for the higher rpm ranges and are not designed for low end grunt.

The reason I used the custom cam is because i wanted the 115 lob separation also I'm in California must have a smog legal car.
I'm going to add bigger mass air and injectors first and play with the timing and see what happens .. Also I was thinking of adding 1.7 Rockers and getting more lift out of the cam..

The cam is basicly like a e303 but with a 115 lob sep

Im located in Chico CA and the nearest tuning places are in San Francisco and bay area so if anyone knows of any please let me know thanks

The car still has its low end torq so after I break it in and make sure Its not running lean all let it rip and see what happens ...

Thanks guys for all your help ...

P.S what mass air should I get?

Also the car runs perfect even with the A/C on its like i never took it apart so I'm happy about that lol lol lol

as far as the brand, i have a pro-m but people have mixed reviews about em. as far as the size go, get something that is bigger than your throttle body but has the same inner diameter as the rest of your cold air intake

like mentioned the car won't be making any real power 'til after 3000rpm so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Definitely get it tuned if you want the max out of your setup, the power increase will be substantial.

Lilttle update

Little update

I added a 3/8 spacer to the upper and lower intake and forgot to put a gasket on top so after fixing that the car runs a little better and feels little faster ..

It seems like the more I drive the car the more power it seems to have ...

I will be get a tune asap just need to find someone to do it ..

I wanted to ask my Rockers seem to be a little noisy is that normal

I took the valve covers off and everything is tight . I was thinking that all aftermarket rockers sound like a sewing machine...

When I installed the rockers I only tuned them a half a tune after 0 lash so if i get them tighter will that quiet them down ?

I had a shop swap heads/cam in my stang and they put the wrong length pushrods in and it sounded like a sewing machine. Did you measure the length?

little update

When I installed the pushrods the mark on the springs looked great and in the middle but then again the lifters were not primed so that might have changed the mark and the pushrods might be a little baby to small.

On the performance side before i took the car apart and installed the H/C/i the car was running super lean and everything inside the motor was white from running so lean so I'm thinking the fuel pump is weak and the car is just super lean..

Im going to put a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve and check fuel pressure but if the car was lean before its going to be lean know so thats what im going to try to fix first...

I'm going to pick up a fuel pump monday and install the fuel pump injectors and mass air and see how that helps...

I really hope to god the car comes to life after the fuel pump.injectors, mass air because i have spend a lot of money to have a slow car loll lol lol

??????

When checking pushrod length does the lifter have to be primed ?
I did not have mine primed so I'm going to check rockers mark and see were its at if the line looks good all try to re just the rocker and see if that helps .

I also just got a trickflow 100 shot plate system. But before i can install the system i need the car done ...

Please pray for me people thanks

yes the lifters shoudl be pumped up. if you have your old lifters (if you got new ones) i've heard you can put like epoxy in them, let that harden, and then use those as a solid lifter to check length.

do you have any spare lifters. there is a way to convert them to solid type for a more accurate measurement
