Ya I will be installing the NOS kit this weekend and be getting the car tune with and without the NOS

The tuner said I really dont need to tune the car with the NOS all I need to do it is run Race fuel or take out 4 degrees of timing ...

Lets hope the motor holds ....

When tuning a 94-95 car. You HAVE to tune the maf first by reading short term fuels trims. Once the mass air is dialed in then you can add timing accordingly, set the injector table etc... The 94-95 cars are tuned based on load % not rpm like the fox body cars. They are tricky and are not easy to tune. BUT with patience and some pride your car will tune out great. You want the car to run a consistent 13.0 at WOT and atleast 14.64 cruising.

If your maf is not calibrated perfectly then all other tuning that is done will be for nothing. That is where the open loop stabized will be incorrect, cruising afr will be incorrect, WOT will be incorrect....Everything works off the reading from the mass air, if it doesnt match what comes out then there is a problem with the calibration in the maf transfer.

If your runing a stock maf why would you want to change anything on it. The maf should be accurate on how much is flowing tru it.

All the maf does is measure air so y would curve on the the stock one need to get change when eec already has the proper one. By changing it all your doing is lying to the coputer on much air is coming tru to compensate for something else. This is from what I read and been told since im trying to tune my self. Now if its an aftermarket maf sometimes you do need to fine tune it.

The only way to tune a maf is in the computer itself with a tuning software. There are 30 points of measured voltage vs hg/hr You are only allowed +or- 5% on your short term fuel trims and NO not even a stock maf is perfect. You can still even dial in a factory setup. If you think your lying to the computer step away from the tuning software now. Why do you think those numbers are there to begin with. Its called a maf TRANSFER. If the short term fuel trim is over 5% you define at what voltage and refigure that figure + or - the % it is over or under.

Ask any tuner if the stock maf is perfectly calibrated and he will tell you NO! Thats the very first thing you dial in before tuning anything else PERIOD!

gotcha then. The stock maf/ECM is made with a standard program but putting up to real world tests and calibrations can net more power makes sence. Take into account that the stock tune is made to be sooo safe and I could see it working.

Is this the first basic step to dyno tuning or something that I need to request to be done? I have an appt at the tuner next wed and added a 90mm lightning maf along with an anderson power pipe with my heads/cam so I would assume he would check it but don't want to make an ass outta anyone.

Watch on brother! All I did was post fact after fact. Its not like I would cry my eyes out. ttocs asked how to tune a maf and rz5.0 was questioning why a stock maf would need to be tuned. Show me where I broken any rules mr. MOD? Oh and I have no idea who that adder person is.

And rz5.0 posted a great thread of a basic understanding of why a maf should be tuned and how. And I wouldn't neccessarily say fine tuning the maf will net more power but a better use of the power. As in driveability and responsivness.

yer new here huh? Paul is known to speak loudly and carry a big (ban) stick for those that earn it. Shortly ago he had to use it on someone and that is why he is asking if you are him.

Honestly not too concerned with (paul). But I hope what I have added to this thread helps the OP out.

You should be. I'm all for people being helpful and posting good tech, but if you're a jerk about it, you won't be here long.

Further, being a dick to a moderator is simply ill-advised.

Please continue to post good tech. Don't, however, do it with a condescending or know-it-all attitude.

Paul.
