ok so i was driving today and noticed when i pushed the clutch in, it would rev up to about 1800rpms and stay there. i shut it off and it didnt do it again until it got warmed back up. im thinking the IAC is taking a dump. am i correct?

Could be a possible IAC. Try taking your batter cables off for a couple minutes and reset your computer and see if it doesnt help it much. Check vacuum leaks as well.

You can also try to clean your IAC with some carb cleaner but honestly this has never worked for me and I have had to replace

Yeah they are pretty pricey. You can check out your local parts store and pick up some electrical component cleaner (MAF cleaner) and that can get rid of some carbon deposit. I cleaned mine with that and a qtip and it got most of it out. The cleaner is designed to evaporate very rapidly.

Vacuum leak, hanging IAC, bad TPS, dirty MAF, etc. Pull codes, check the TPS and clean the MAF and IAC.

ok so i got some time to look at it today. the hose going in to the IAC is kind of brittle and is cracking. could that be it? and also i was wondering how to check for vacuum leaks, is there a test or something?

that sounds pretty likely to be your issue. The IAC will do all sorts of weird things when it doesn't have that tube hooked up. I replaced mine not to long ago but i couldnt find the OEM part so Oreillys has some hose out on the isle that have 90 degree bends already in them and i just cut it to fit. Just like new.

idk what i was thinking when i typed that, its the hose underneath the IAC. and today i checked for codes and there wasnt any. my autotech teacher said when it is acting up unplug the vacuum line to the egr and see what happens. what do u guys think about that? the problem doesnt happen all of the time so that makes it even harder..
