You gotta give us more on here so we can help.. a 4.6 motor will still run with all kinds of noises..

how are your chain guides and tensioners?

it could be bottom end.. bearing of some sort

have you had it up on a lift and ran the car standing underneath?

Make a video and lets go from there.

ive run it on a lift and it sounds like its coming from the heads. it has only been since the heads were done. and it sounds like its coming from the back 2 cylinders on the drivers side head....

If it was your chain tensioners it would be making a loud clanking noise

well guys i took the car up to a local mustang shop and they think the noise is coming from either the valve guides or there was too much machined off the valves. so they said they wanna pull the heads but i dont have the money for that crap so its gonna have to wait till next year to get fixed! :-(

Since you said that the tick arose once you put the heads on kind of makes me think you could have a bent valve. I ended up bending the #1 intake valve with the cams im running and had a constant good tick but never had any performance problems. Could be something else to look into when you get it apart. Hope you get it tuned in and figured out.

Gregor185:

If a valve is bent, a compression test ought to show a problem. At least it is inexpensive to do and will give you peace of mind if the compression holds nicely.
