I started the tear down yesterday but just making the thread now. Not a huge project as compared to some on here but also going to do a few additional things while it is apart.

Project Description: Removing the AFR 185cc Cylinder heads to be replaced with Trickflow 205CNC cylinder heads. Sending out the Victor 5.8 lower to be ported. Unsure of any porting yet as far as the new heads. Depends on if any further will be needed compared to what they are out of the box. Also getting the accessory brackets powder coated and cleaning up the front of the block, grime, grease all that stuff.

Hoping for over 350 at the wheels once everything is complete. This will be a slow build thread spanning until next spring but I will update with pics or information on whats being done.

This is the progress as of the end of day 2.

Also this is the first time attempting anything like this so I am learning a lot as I go along. I just hope I remember how to put it all back together lol

Its been fun and frustrating. Also to add to the whole build thread I will be working on getting a set of Corbeau CR1 seats with 4 point harness belts and 2000 Cobra R wheels. I would like to finish the car next year.

Im going to have to get a power steering pulley puller to get that off. I have a friend that I think has one so hopefully I'll have the drivers side all taken care of by tuesday

Reminds me of when i did my engine last winter, but this is your first time doing this? Didn't you assemble the engine already before hand with the current things in it? Seeing that 351w block gives me bad thoughts of what I should do with my car in the future lol.

Ive never broken it further down then the valve covers and lower intake. The engine was all assembled and in the car when I bought it and the cam intake swap was done at my friends shop 2 years ago

Once again im going to call you stupid. You need to get that block out of the car, you need o get the OE R heads and find an OE manifold and put together. THen you need to get another block, stick it in the car and race that. Your killing what makes your car different then the others.

Other then that get it together and get it running!!

Putting this engine back to OEM and getting another block is just to expensive to do right now. Plus Im trying to achieve a goal of an 11 second time slip on a Cobra R engine with stock internals, not some run of the mill 351 that could have been pulled out of any junk yard. Most of the 95 R engines were road raced and very few have been put in Drag Racing applications. Only 255 of these engines are out there, very few of those are drag raced, even less of those can say they have an 11 second slip. Id like to think that I can accomplish something that may not have been done yet or if it has by no more then a handfull

Also do you realize how virtually impossible it would be to find a 95 R lower, it didnt even come with that when I bought it

did you mark the pushrods top and bottom so you know which way they came out?

i'm kidding....... i'm sure you'll get it back on the track but why such a long time from now? trying to beat duffy out on the "longest unnecessary build ever thread"?

Project day 6 update

Phase 1 is complete which consisted of the complete tear down and take off of everything that was being replaced or improved.

Phase 2 will consist of taking anything left on the accessory brackets and cleaning them up and cleaning up the engine block as best as I can.

Hey man its up to you, but if my 2v was something specail i would keep it together, its not. but a Cobra R motor... wouldnt you have to have the R intake, and R heads to go with the R block to make it an R motor??

Theoretically but the intake is virtually impossible to get. All it had before was a 351 lower w/ a Cobra upper. The heads and cam are not as hard to come by
