I want to buy headers for my 95 GT Conv. In the past it was said to use these gaskets. Are these still recommended? Here's my list:

MRG-5930 Exhaust Gaskets, Header, Ultra-Seal, Stock Port, Ford, Small Block, Pair $16.95 $16.95

SUM-G9076 Headers, Shorty, Steel, Natural, Ford, Mustang 1994-95, 5.0L, Pair $89.95 $89.95

Sorry, I just knew you'd know!! Thanks!!

If they are the stock heads, then yea use the Mr Gasket 5930....aftermarket heads, Id like to use the Fel-Pro 1415...

This is because the port size on the Mr Gasket 5930 better suits a stock head...the 1415 Fel-Pro has a larger port size, better suited for non-stock heads...

As for the Summit headers, no experience with them....

My trick to (almost) blow proof header gaskets.

Mr Gasket Ultraseals
and
a tube of copper high temp rtv silicone

Put a layer of rtv on each side of the gaskets let it tack up for about 10 minutes.

Slap them on and seat the bolts and headers but NOT fully tight.

Wait 30-40 minutes...THEN CRANK'EM DOWN.

You obviously have to recheck them. Loctite DOES NOT WORK on header bolts. Ask anyone the trick to loosening up "permanent" loctite...heat. You heat loctite up, it melts and no longer "locks."

1415 gaskets, high temp rtv, stage 8 locking bolts. No leaks, no checking for backed out bolts. Just drive and enjoy the sound of a leak free exhaust.

I will just print off what y'all say! I have a trusty mechanic/exhaust guy I use!! He really does only exhaust. He does my everything though! Thanks!!

Will he know what a tube of copper high temp rtv silicone is? I all the time print of what you say and take to him. I say, "Today, I want this!"

If he doesn't know what copper rtv is you should seriously never go to him again.

And you really should make a bit of an effort to do some of the stuff yourself. Its really nice that you have a mechanic you trust but if you ever have to move or he moves his business or whatever you may be ass out. LOTS of mechanics out there who won't even think twice about taking advantage of ppl who don't know their cars.

Scotty, I understand what you mean. You just do not know me though! I can barely work a flat head screwdriver! After I arose from my coma, I have just slid way down of what I used to be! That is the best way I can say it! I was really happy when I replaced my radiator cover I bought like 1 year ago! It was supposed to be an easy ass job! That was out of my league, sort of!

He will know about that stuff! It was just Chinese to me, I meant!! He knows I once knew this stuff! He always asked my family about me while I was 'taking an extended nap!' He just understands how I now am! Sorry this is so long, too!

Is it OK for me to buy the Summit brand? I don't really need them! I just figured I will replace them some day, so why not now? I see BBK has them for $189.95. Do I need to step up and buy these? Thanks!!

For shorty headers the only ones I would ever buy(and did own for 4 years) are the FMS ceramic shorties. They'll outlast the car and they fit perfectly. $300 for them but like I said, you'll never have to buy another set.

I saw some Ford Racing ones! Is that the same as FMS? I had some FMS 3.73 gears in the past, I think.

I see Stainless Steel for $239.95. Ceramic for $319.95. I am not at all worried about the price if it really matters! I mainly did that so you'd know they're the correct ones! Thanks!!

FMS(Ford Motorsport) is what they used to be called. Everything is FRPP now for whatever reason. I just sold my old set about 4 or 5 months ago. They looked almost brand new still after 4 years of use although in those 4 years the car only went 24,000 miles. Can't say enough about the quality or longevity of these headers.

Ive never used silicone on header jobs....except for turbo headers, flanges....

The BBK chrome shorties are a good piece...nice 1 piece flange, great fit and finish...they do discolour to a blueish color, some people like the way it looks, some dont....but Ive never heard anyone complain to me about them.

The Ford Racing (FMS, FRPP) headers are nice pieces as well...a little more expensive than other brands but good pieces....A buddy of mine is using the regular non ceramic coated shorties, flipped around for turbo headers.....they've held up quite well.... (has gone 8.70s @160mph)

Sorry, I can't keep up on what y'all are typing about!

I will ask flat out, is Summit brand stuff just as good as name brand stuff?

I am very poor and I can buy the expensive stuff, no problem! It just takes a few more months to save up. A long time ago I remember asking this very question! It was said that Summit is just as good! Can someone just give me a yes or no? Then you can type away! Sorry about this!!

Depends on what it is. Their gaskets are usually pretty good. Summit has been around for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time and they have a reputation to maintain.
